Best Rooftop Restaurants in Geneva 2026

Rooftop dining · Geneva · 6 tables ranked · Updated June 2026

Compiled by the Restaurants for Kings editorial team · Published June 15, 2026 · Updated June 15, 2026

Geneva sells the lake, and most visitors chase it at water level, where the city's grand hotel terraces sit. But the lake-level rooms are terraces, not rooftops, and the genuine roofs tell a harsher story: of the six worth naming, only one, Izumi at the Four Seasons, runs a kitchen you would cross town for. The rest are bars with a sundown view and a competent plate, and we rank them honestly as such. Height in Geneva buys you the Jet d'Eau, the Jura and Mont Blanc; it rarely buys you dinner. For the meals that out-cook every roof here, our Geneva dining guide stays at street level.

1.Izumi

Nikkei Japanese · Saint-Gervais, Quai des Bergues 33 · 8th floor, Four Seasons des Bergues

The only Geneva rooftop with a destination kitchen, not just a view and a snack menu; go for the cooking.

Chef Toshikazu Kato, trained in Tokyo and seasoned across the Nobu-influenced Four Seasons kitchens, runs the most serious rooftop kitchen in the city. The Black Cod Miso Zuke and a spiny-lobster thermidor anchor a Nikkei menu that crosses Japanese precision with Peruvian heat; the ten-course tasting is CHF 135, mains CHF 40 to 60, and a lunch formula opens at CHF 68. The eighth-floor terrace on Quai des Bergues looks across the Rhône to the lake and the Jet d'Eau, and it runs indoor and out year-round. Order the Wasabi Martini, then eat like it is a restaurant, because it is.

Reserve by phone via Four Seasons Geneva.

2.Rooftop°42

French-Mediterranean · Rues-Basses, Rue du Rhône 42 · 8th floor

Central Rue du Rhône roof that runs a full dinner service, not just sundown drinks; book it.

Eight floors above Rue du Rhône in the Rues-Basses shopping core, Rooftop°42 is one of the few central Geneva roofs built around a kitchen rather than a DJ booth. The menu runs French dishes with Mediterranean flavours and Asian touches across lunch and dinner, with a deep wine list and cocktails around CHF 22. The terrace looks over the harbour, the Jet d'Eau and the city's rooflines, and the room shifts to live music and a monthly comedy club after service. It earns a place in The Rooftop Guide's 2026 Geneva selection. Come for an actual meal with the view, then stay for the night.

Reserve at rooftop42.com.

3.MET Rooftop Lounge

Tapas & cocktails · Rive-Gauche, Quai du Général-Guisan 34 · 5th floor, Hôtel Métropole

Best central lakefront panorama for year-round tapas and a long sundowner; reserve ahead.

On the fifth floor of the classic Hôtel Métropole, the MET looks straight over the Jardin Anglais to Lake Geneva and the Saint-Pierre Cathedral, the most central lake panorama on this list. More than 300 square metres of terrace make it the city's default sunset room, and unlike the seasonal roofs it runs through winter with cosy indoor sessions. The kitchen is tapas-led rather than a full dinner service: refined small plates, a wide Swiss and global gin selection, and cocktails around CHF 23. Geneva Tourism lists it among the city's best rooftops. Share a few plates and a cocktail jug, and time it for sundown.

Book at metropole.ch.

4.Suite 1201

Cocktails & soul food · Cointrin, Chem. du Ruisseau 1 · 12th floor, Geneva Marriott

Highest terrace in Geneva, open April to October for cocktails and soul food; climb it.

Twelve floors up on the Geneva Marriott out by Cointrin, Suite 1201 is the highest rooftop in the city and the only one with the airport, the lake and the surrounding mountains in one sweep. It is a seasonal, drinks-first room, open from late April to October, where mixology meets a soul-food menu that runs from a Swiss cheese board to fried calamari, with cocktails around CHF 23. The Rooftop Guide ranks it the city's top rooftop for 2026. It works mostly on a first-come basis, with reservations for groups of ten or more. Go for the altitude and the sunset, not a sit-down dinner.

5.Ruby Claire Hotel & Bar

Italian small plates · Rues-Basses, Rue du Rhône 46 · 7th floor

Two central terraces and an all-hours Italian bar one street off the water; try it once.

One street back from the waterfront, the design-led Ruby Claire crowns its hotel with two rooftop terraces and a 24-hour bar, seven floors up in the Rues-Basses on Rue du Rhône 46. The kitchen is casual Italian: wood-fired pizzas, piadine and piatti, with a signature Italicus Spritz and classic cocktails at any hour. The views are urban rather than the best in town, the honest reason it sits low here, but the all-day, all-night format makes it the most flexible roof in the centre, and it earns a place in The Rooftop Guide's 2026 Geneva selection. Use it for a late slice and a nightcap after dinner elsewhere.

Book via ruby-hotels.com.

6.Rooftop 105

Tacos & cocktails · Lancy, Rte des Jeunes 105A · 4th floor, La Praille

Industrial-quarter roof for tacos, Jura views and summer live music; pencil it in.

On the top floor of a former industrial building in the Praille district, Rooftop 105 is the city's loosest, most local roof, looking over the rooftops to the Jura mountains and Mont Salève. The format is sunny and casual: Mexican-inspired street food, with tacos around CHF 9, house cocktails and local wines, plus daily live entertainment in season. It runs for the public from April to September and can be booked for private events year-round. It rounds out The Rooftop Guide's 2026 Geneva six. This is a fun afternoon-into-evening roof rather than a dinner table, so come for the tacos, the sun and the music.

Avoid for a rooftop dinner

Great lake view, wrong room for a rooftop meal

Bayview by Michel Roth (Hotel President Wilson). Geneva's headline lakeside dinner, a Michelin-starred room from chef Michel Roth, but it sits at hotel level with a lakeside terrace, not a rooftop. Book it for the food, just not as a roof.

Rive Droite (Hotel President). The first-floor terrace and beach-club pool look out over the lake and Mont Blanc, but it is a daytime lounge with a heated pool, not a rooftop dinner. Save it for a summer afternoon.

How to book a Geneva rooftop

Geneva's rooftops split into two camps, and the booking strategy follows. The two that actually cook, Izumi and Rooftop°42, take real dinner reservations; book Izumi by phone a week ahead and ask for a terrace edge near the Rhône. The drinks-led roofs (the MET, Suite 1201, Rooftop 105) lean on walk-ins and sunset queues, so arrive 45 minutes before listed sundown for a rail seat, and note that Suite 1201 and Rooftop 105 only open late April to October. Central roofs (the MET, Ruby Claire) keep some service through winter. For a serious lakeside meal at ground level, our Geneva dining guide lists the rooms that out-cook every roof in town, and the wider RFK rankings index compares cities.

Frequently asked

Which Geneva rooftop has the best food?

Izumi, the Nikkei rooftop atop the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues run by chef Toshikazu Kato, is the only Geneva roof with a destination kitchen. Rooftop°42 on Rue du Rhône is the strongest runner-up. Most other Geneva rooftops are bars with a competent plate rather than full restaurants.

Which rooftop has the best view in Geneva?

Suite 1201 atop the Marriott is the highest, taking in the lake, the mountains and the airport. The MET at the Hôtel Métropole has the most central lake-and-cathedral panorama, and Izumi looks straight over the Rhône to the Jet d'Eau.

Are Geneva rooftops open in winter?

Some. The MET and central hotel roofs keep indoor service through winter. The seasonal terraces, Suite 1201 and Rooftop 105, open roughly late April to October, so confirm before a cold-season visit.

Is Bayview by Michel Roth a rooftop?

No. Bayview is a Michelin-starred restaurant with a lakeside terrace at the Hotel President Wilson, but it sits at hotel level, not on a roof. Book it for the food and the lake, just not as a rooftop.

Do I need a reservation for a Geneva rooftop?

For dinner at Izumi or Rooftop°42, yes; book a week ahead and ask for a terrace edge. The drinks-led roofs, the MET, Suite 1201 and Rooftop 105, lean on walk-ins, so arrive before sunset for a rail seat.

What should I order on a Geneva rooftop?

At Izumi, the Black Cod Miso Zuke and the Wasabi Martini. Elsewhere it is lighter: tapas at the MET, soul food and a cheese board at Suite 1201, tacos at Rooftop 105, and pizza at Ruby Claire.
