The Verdict
Stingray Beach Inn sits at the south end of Bikini Beach and runs a hybrid restaurant operation — a 40-cover main dining room on the beachfront terrace, plus a single private beach-table set 30 metres down the sand from the main restaurant, lit by candles and torches, that the kitchen uses for proposals, anniversaries, and the occasional birthday.
The private-table format is structurally the rarest setup in the Maldives outside the resort islands: a three-course set menu (USD 75 per person, advance booking required, minimum two), served by a dedicated waiter, with a kitchen-supplied music system and a candle perimeter that gives the table its own room within the open beach. The set menu rotates weekly but always includes a reef-fish ceviche opener, a grilled-lobster main, and the kitchen's coconut panna cotta as the closer.
The main dining room handles the standard à la carte service — fihunu mas grilled fish, the Maldivian curry program, and a small pasta section. Pricing runs USD 22–35 per person on à la carte; the private table is USD 75 fixed.
Why It Works for Proposal
Proposals work at Stingray Beach Inn for one reason: the private beach table is the only true private-dining setup on Maafushi. Set 30 metres from the main restaurant on its own stretch of sand, lit by torches, with a dedicated waiter and a kitchen-supplied music system, it is the closest the island gets to a resort-private-island dinner — at a fifth of the price.
Signature Dishes
The private beach-table dinner (set menu, three courses, USD 75 per person); whole grilled lobster; reef-fish ceviche; the coconut panna cotta.
