At Little Creatures in Fremantle a sandpit and playground sit a few metres from the brewery tables, and at The Stirling Arms a two-storey nature playground keeps children busy while the kitchen works. Perth treats the family meal as a given rather than an afterthought, with playgrounds built into the room. These six, ranked, are where to eat with children in the city.
1.Little Creatures
A harbourside brewery with a sandpit, playground and pizzas by the boats; the Fremantle family default for a long lunch.
Little Creatures has poured at 40 Mews Road on Fishing Boat Harbour in Fremantle since 2000, a converted boat shed where a sandpit and playground sit within sight of the tables. The wood-fired pizzas and the chilli mussels are the orders, and The Shed and Deck Bar spread across the boardwalk overlooking the water.
A pizza runs around 26 to 32 dollars and a family meal lands near 35 to 45 dollars a head. The harbour playground, the pram-friendly floor and the high chairs make it the Fremantle default, busy on weekends, so arrive before the lunch rush.
2.The Stirling Arms
A heritage pub with a two-storey nature playground and kids menu; come for a Guildford lunch that runs itself.
The Stirling Arms is an 1850s heritage hotel at 15 James Street in Guildford whose Percy's Playground is a sprawling two-storey nature play area with shade sails, misters, a sandpit and a games corner. The bistro runs a pub menu of parmas, burgers and a proper kids' menu alongside.
A main lands near 28 to 38 dollars and a children's meal runs around 12 to 15 dollars. The scale of the playground and the shaded outdoor extension mean a meal here effectively supervises itself, which is why families drive across town for it.
3.Il Lido
All-day beachfront pasta across from Cottesloe sand; come for a hand-made lunch a step from the swim.
Il Lido Italian Canteen runs at 88 Marine Parade in Cottesloe, directly across from the beach on the site of the old Lido Cabaret, open from 7am until late every day. The hand-made pasta, the wood-grilled fish and the antipasti are the kitchen's strengths, with a counter and communal tables.
Pasta runs around 28 to 36 dollars and a family lunch lands near 35 to 50 dollars a head. The beachfront position and the all-day hours make it the natural pre- or post-swim stop, with enough space and a relaxed mood for children between courses.
4.The Morris
A revamped Innaloo pub with a new wooden playground and family terrace; come for a low-fuss northern-suburbs meal.
The Morris, formerly The Saint, reopened at 219 Liege Street in Innaloo after a 2024 rebuild that added a family Terrace and a wooden playground of a climbing tower, cubby house, slides and climbing ropes with two kids' picnic tables. The bistro runs a broad pub menu of steaks, pizzas and burgers.
A main lands near 26 to 40 dollars with a kids' menu around 12 dollars. The new playground and the dedicated family terrace make it an easy northern-suburbs option, purpose-built for parents who want to eat while the children climb.
5.The Last Local
A family tavern with play areas and live entertainment in Canning Vale; come for a casual southern-suburbs dinner.
The Last Local is a large family tavern at 6 Birnam Road in Canning Vale, built around a broad bistro, dedicated kids' play areas and a regular roster of live entertainment in the southern suburbs. The menu runs the pub standards of parmas, pizzas, burgers and a children's menu.
A main lands near 25 to 38 dollars and a kids' meal runs around 12 to 14 dollars. The play areas, the entertainment nights and the sheer size of the room make it a reliable casual dinner for families on the south side of the river.
6.Peel Alehouse
A Mandurah-side brewpub with a kids play area and family bistro; come for a relaxed lunch on the way south.
Peel Alehouse sits at 14 Eystone Street in Halls Head near Mandurah, a microbrewery and bistro with a dedicated kids' play area and a family-friendly section away from the bar. The wood-fired pizzas, the burgers and the rotating house beers anchor the menu.
A pizza or burger lands near 24 to 34 dollars with a children's menu around 12 dollars. The play area and the casual brewpub mood make it the easy family stop for anyone heading down the coast, far enough from the city to feel like a day out.
Not for children
Perth's fine-dining rooms to save for a night without the kids
Wildflower and Santini. The state's flagship tasting room above COMO The Treasury and the buzzing late-night Italian at the same hotel are formal, multi-hour and reservation-locked, the opposite of a family lunch. Book them for a date or a deal, not for the children's table.
Rockpool Bar and Grill. The Neil Perry steakhouse on the ground floor is a polished business and special-occasion room with a serious wine list and dry-aged beef at premium prices, not set up for a high chair. Save it for an adults-only celebration.
Nobu Perth. The Crown Towers room is a late, expensive destination dinner built for adults, where the omakase pacing and the bill both work against a family meal. Come for a date night rather than with young children.
How to eat with children in Perth
Perth's best family rooms are pubs and breweries with playgrounds built in, spread from Fremantle harbour and Cottesloe beach across to the northern suburbs at Innaloo and Guildford and south toward Canning Vale and Mandurah. The water-edge venues like Little Creatures and Il Lido pair a meal with a swim or a harbour walk.
Lunch and early dinner are the family slots, with the brewery and pub playgrounds busiest on weekends, so arrive before the midday rush at the harbour rooms. High chairs and kids' menus are near-universal here, and most venues are walk-in friendly, though the harbour tables at Little Creatures are worth booking on a sunny Saturday.
