Apollo Bar does not take a reservation for its courtyard, and you do not need one. Copenhagen runs on bookings at the top end, with Noma and the three-star rooms gone months ahead, but a strong second tier holds its seats for people who simply turn up. These six are the rooms to know: Frederik Bille Brahe's no-booking courtyard, a seafood bar in the Meatpacking District, a forty-seat bistro bar, Rosio Sanchez's taqueria, a Cofoco counter and a Vesterbro Italian. Ranked on how genuinely walk-in friendly each is, the seat you get, and the food.
1.Apollo Bar
Frederik Bille Brahe's Charlottenborg courtyard takes no bookings at all. Walk in for the city's most stylish no-reservation table.
Apollo Bar sits in the courtyard of Kunsthal Charlottenborg, just off Nyhavn, and runs the clearest no-reservation policy in Copenhagen: the courtyard tables are walk-in only, with the 14:30 to 17:00 window each afternoon set aside for drop-in snacks and drinks. Frederik Bille Brahe owns it and Yuta Kurahashi runs the kitchen, turning out a daily-changing menu of house pasta, grilled octopus and the sourdough the room is known for. It reopened with a dinner-focused relaunch in early 2026. This is the rare top-tier room you cannot book and do not need to, which is exactly its appeal. Arrive early in the afternoon window or just after the doors open, and put your name down for a table.
Skip the booking and walk in; aim for the afternoon window or the first dinner seating.
2.Kodbyens Fiskebar
Jamie Lee's seafood bar in the Meatpacking District holds bar seats for walk-ins. Drop in for blue mussels and a glass without a booking.
Kodbyens Fiskebar opened in 2009 in a former butcher's hall in the Kodbyen, Copenhagen's Meatpacking District in Vesterbro, and built its name on holding bar seats for people who walk in. Head chef Jamie Lee, who came up through the Jason Atherton and Gordon Ramsay groups, sends out Limfjord blue mussels steamed in apple cider with cream at around 155 kroner, alongside oysters by the piece. It carries a Bib Gourmand in the 2026 Michelin Guide. Tables take bookings, but the bar, the sofas and the oyster counter are kept for walk-ins, so you can almost always find a seat off-peak. Arrive before eight, ask for a bar seat, and order the mussels.
Walk in and ask for the bar; order the blue mussels and a glass of white.
3.Pluto
A big, loud Borgergade bistro with a forty-seat walk-in bar and Bib Gourmand cooking. Drop in solo or late for sharing plates.
Pluto on Borgergade 16, near the Marmorkirken, has run as a lively all-day bistro since 2012, and walk-ins are always welcome at its bar, which seats around forty and suits solo diners and late arrivals. The kitchen sends family-style sharing plates, with a savoury waffle topped with quail legs as the dish regulars come back for; a la carte starts around 110 kroner and the tasting runs about 450 to 475. It has held a Bib Gourmand since 2021. Booking is wise on a busy night, but the bar is built for people who turn up without one. Come on the early side, take a bar stool, and order a few plates to share.
Walk in and take a bar stool; order the quail-leg waffle and keep the plates coming.
4.Hija de Sanchez
Rosio Sanchez's taqueria mills its own corn and takes no bookings. Walk up for the best tacos in Copenhagen.
Hija de Sanchez runs a counter taqueria at Slagterboderne 8 in the Kodbyen, and it has never taken a reservation: you order at the counter and walk up. Rosio Sanchez, once head pastry chef at Noma, opened this location in 2016 and mills Mexican corn fresh each day for the tortillas, which is what sets the tacos apart, priced around 37 to 42 kroner each. It is counter and casual rather than a sit-down room, which is why it ranks below the bars above, but for a no-reservation meal it is the most pure on this list. Come at lunch or early evening, order a spread of tacos, and eat them at the counter or standing.
Walk up to the counter; order a spread of tacos on the fresh-milled tortillas.
5.Llama
A Cofoco Latin-American room on Lille Kongensgade that holds its bar for walk-ins. Drop in for ceviche and a pisco at the counter.
Llama on Lille Kongensgade 14, run by the Cofoco group since 2014, takes reservations for its tables but keeps the bar for walk-ins, which is where the pisco and mezcal pours happen. The kitchen cooks Latin American, with a bright ceviche and anticuchos, skewered grilled meats, as the plates to order; mains run 115 to 195 kroner and a four-course is 350. The walk-in is bar-only rather than the full dining room, so it ranks below the rooms that hold proper seats, but the counter is a good perch for a solo dinner or a late drink and a plate. Turn up, take a bar seat, and start with the ceviche.
Walk in for the bar; order the ceviche and a pisco sour.
6.Famo
Fabbio Mazzon's Saxogade Italian seats walk-ins for a single daily menu. Drop in for a long, set-price dinner in Vesterbro.
Famo on Saxogade 3 in Vesterbro has served a single set daily menu since 2005, and it seats walk-ins when there is room, though a busy night leans on bookings. Fabbio Mazzon, once head chef at the Michelin-starred Era Ora, owns it and cooks a market menu of six antipasti, two pastas and a main, with a pasta alla norma a frequent highlight. There is one menu and it is priced to the market; lunch is by reservation only. It is the most booking-leaning of the six, which is why it closes the list, but a midweek walk-in usually finds a seat. Turn up early, take whatever the kitchen is cooking, and settle in for the night.
Walk in early midweek; take the set menu and let the kitchen lead.
Looks walk-in, books out
Schonnemann is reservations only
Schonnemann on Hauser Plads has poured aquavit and served smorrebrod since 1877, and visitors assume a lunch institution that old must take walk-ins. It does not. Tables are reservation only, book out weeks ahead, and the room turns people away even when seats sit empty. Reserve well in advance if you want it; for a genuine walk-in lunch, Apollo Bar or the Fiskebar bar are the better bet.
How to walk in for dinner in Copenhagen
Copenhagen runs on bookings at the top end, with Noma and the three-star rooms gone months ahead, but a strong second tier holds seats for people who turn up. Apollo Bar and Hija de Sanchez take no reservations at all, while Kodbyens Fiskebar, Pluto and Llama keep their bars and counters for walk-ins even when the tables are booked.
Timing is everything. Arrive before the 19:30 rush, aim for a bar or counter seat rather than a table, and have a second option nearby in the same district. The Meatpacking District in Vesterbro is the best single area for this, with the Fiskebar and Hija de Sanchez a short walk apart.
Frequently asked
Which Copenhagen restaurants take walk-ins?
Apollo Bar in the Charlottenborg courtyard and Hija de Sanchez in the Meatpacking District take no reservations at all, so both are pure walk-ins. Kodbyens Fiskebar, Pluto and Llama all accept table bookings but hold their bars and counters for people who turn up. For a no-booking dinner, arrive before the evening rush and ask for a bar or counter seat rather than a table.
Can you eat in Copenhagen without a reservation?
Yes, though you have to choose the right rooms. The famous tasting-menu restaurants book out months ahead, but a strong group of bars and counters keeps seats for walk-ins. Apollo Bar and Hija de Sanchez never take bookings, and the Fiskebar, Pluto and Llama all hold bar seats. Go early, head to the Meatpacking District, and keep a backup nearby in case your first choice is full.
Where can I get a walk-in table in the Meatpacking District?
Kodbyens Fiskebar holds its bar, sofas and oyster counter for walk-ins, and Hija de Sanchez, a few doors away, is a no-reservation taqueria. Both sit in the Kodbyen in Vesterbro, so you can try one and walk to the other if it is full. Arrive before eight in the evening for the best chance, and ask the Fiskebar specifically for a bar seat.
Does Noma take walk-ins?
No. Noma sells tickets and reservations months in advance and does not seat walk-ins, so it is not an option for a spontaneous dinner. The same is true of most of Copenhagen's tasting-menu rooms. For a high-quality meal without a booking, Apollo Bar, Kodbyens Fiskebar and Hija de Sanchez are the rooms to aim for, all of which keep seats for people who turn up.
