Crate queues out the door in Canggu for a smoothie bowl, and Sea Circus has plated brunch on Seminyak's Eat Street since 2010. Bali's cafe culture is its own kind of famous, split between Canggu's health bowls, Seminyak's all-day rooms and Ubud's wellness kitchens. These seven, ranked, are where to spend a morning on the island, rice-field view optional.
1.Crate Cafe
Canggu's busiest, cheapest morning room; come early for a smoothie bowl before the line builds.
Crate Cafe has anchored Canggu's morning scene since 2015, off Jalan Batu Bolong near Padang Linjong, a high-volume health cafe. The Why So Cereal smoothie bowl and the loaded avocado toast are the orders, roughly 50,000 to 75,000 rupiah, about 3 to 5 dollars.
CNBC once profiled it as a cafe designed for the Instagram crowd, and lines form most mornings from its early open. It is the iconic, affordable Canggu brunch. It is walk-in only, so come early; note that a move toward Pererenan has been reported, so confirm the current address.
2.Sea Circus
A Seminyak brunch institution since 2010; come to Eat Street for the fairy-floss pancakes and eggs.
Sea Circus has run on Jalan Kayu Aya, Seminyak's Eat Street, since 2010, a colorful all-day cafe and bar. The fairy-floss pancakes and the egg dishes are the orders, with mains roughly 90,000 to 150,000 rupiah, about 6 to 9 dollars; it opens at 7:30 a.m.
It is one of the island's longest-running brunch institutions, a cheerful circus-themed room in a prime location, recently moved across its own street. The pancakes and the ceviche are the way in. It is walk-in friendly, with bookings possible for a group.
3.Milk and Madu
Canggu's family-friendly Australian cafe; come for ricotta hotcakes, a poke bowl and a proper coffee.
Milk and Madu runs several Bali rooms, with its original in Berawa, Canggu, plus a Beach Road site and an Ubud branch, an Australian-style cafe. The smashed avocado and the ricotta hotcakes are the orders, with mains roughly 80,000 to 140,000 rupiah, about 5 to 8 dollars.
It is a long-time Canggu favorite, lively and family-friendly, with specialty coffee, wood-fired pizza and a boozy brunch. The hotcakes and a flat white are the morning order. It is walk-in, with bookings for larger groups and weekends, and opens early.
4.KYND Community
Seminyak's pink, photographed cafe; come for a custom smoothie bowl with your name spelled in fruit.
KYND Community sits at Jalan Petitenget 12 in Seminyak, a pink, plant-forward cafe open from 8 a.m. The customizable smoothie bowls, which spell your name in fruit, are the signature, roughly 90,000 to 130,000 rupiah, about 6 to 8 dollars.
It grew from a 25-seat spot into a flagship of more than a hundred seats and is covered by Time Out Bali. Long marketed as vegan, it now serves dairy and eggs, so it reads as plant-forward rather than strictly vegan. It is walk-in and busy, so come off-peak.
5.Penny Lane
Canggu's glasshouse all-day room; come for smashed avo and truffle fries in a limestone courtyard.
Penny Lane sits on Jalan Munduk Catu in Canggu, a glasshouse all-day cafe and bar with a limestone-arched courtyard, serving breakfast from 8 a.m. The smashed avocado on sourdough runs about 75,000 rupiah, around 5 dollars, and the beer-battered truffle fries are the crowd order.
It is Canggu's most-reviewed all-day venue, known for its bohemian glasshouse design and a strong brunch-to-cocktails arc. The avo toast and the fries are the way in. It takes reservations and welcomes walk-ins, so book a courtyard table for a weekend morning.
6.Clear Cafe
Ubud's barefoot wellness cafe; come to Hanoman for organic bowls and fresh juice in a lush room.
Clear Cafe sits at Jalan Hanoman 8 in Ubud, near the Monkey Forest, a vegetarian and pescatarian wellness cafe. The organic bowls, curries and fresh juices are the orders, with mains roughly 70,000 to 120,000 rupiah, about 4 to 7 dollars.
It is the quintessential Ubud cafe, barefoot and incense-scented, a long-established top-rated room that anchors the island's wellness-brunch geography away from the Canggu strips. The juices and the bowls are the way in. It is walk-in, so come and settle into the lush room.
7.Milu by Nook
A rice-field garden room in Berawa; come for a big breakfast plate with the classic Bali paddy view.
Milu by Nook sits at Jalan Pantai Berawa in Canggu, a garden restaurant overlooking a rice field, the sister of the original paddy-side Nook, open from 8 a.m. The large breakfast plates are the order, with mains roughly 70,000 to 130,000 rupiah, about 4 to 8 dollars.
It delivers the classic Bali rice-field brunch in Berawa, a big garden with generous portions and greenery, the view pick alongside the urban cafes. The breakfast plate is the order. It is walk-in, with reservations advisable at peak times, so come for the paddy view.
Not for everyone
Famous, but check before you go
Cinta Cafe. The original Berawa site has closed and relocated toward Pererenan. Do not navigate to the old Berawa address; if you go at all, confirm the current Pererenan operation first.
Cafe Organic. The photogenic plant-based group is heavily hyped, but recent confirmation that every branch still trades is thin. Verify the specific Seminyak or Canggu branch is open before building a morning around it.
Batu Bolong photo cafes. The Canggu strips are lined with interchangeable, heavily marketed Instagram cafes that trade on the look over the plate. Skip the unnamed photo-first spots in favor of the established rooms above.
How to brunch well in Bali
Bali's brunch map splits by area. Canggu, around Batu Bolong and Berawa, is the health-bowl and all-day-cafe heartland; Seminyak, along Eat Street and Petitenget, has the established sit-down rooms; Ubud, around Hanoman, runs the wellness kitchens. Pick the area, then the room.
Two practical notes. The Canggu rooms, Crate especially, are walk-in and queue early, so come at opening. And the island's cafe scene relocates often, so confirm the current address before you set out; several rooms have moved or are moving toward Pererenan.
