Too loud, too far, or too much for a first date
Orbit at the Sky Tower. The slowly revolving Sky Tower restaurant is a memorable novelty with a panoramic view, but the rotating-floor gimmick and the tourist crowd make it more spectacle than conversation. For a romantic room you can actually talk in, the wine bars and the Parnell courtyard above are the better first-date call.
Mudbrick on Waiheke. Mudbrick vineyard is genuinely romantic, but it is a ferry ride to Waiheke Island and a logistical commitment that is a lot for a first date. Save it for an established relationship; for a first meeting, keep it in town where leaving early is easy if the spark is not there.
