The Grounds hands children a crochet-net playground while parents eat fresh pasta, and at Andy's a robot named Bella delivers the burgers to the table. Auckland feeds families on a real kitchen plus a reason for the kids to stay put. These six, ranked, are where to eat with children in the city.
1.The Grounds
Handmade pasta and a crochet-net playground on five acres of urban park; come with children for the room to run.
The Grounds sits on five acres of urban park in the Henderson Valley, where head chef Samantha Bosco, formerly of Baduzzi, makes the pasta fresh on site each day. The hand-crafted pasta, the fluffy focaccia and the seasonal produce from the garden carry the cooking.
Mains run roughly NZ$28 to NZ$38, so a meal lands near NZ$40 a head. The handmade crochet-net playground and the open lawn keep children busy between courses, which makes it the most genuinely family-built room in Auckland rather than a kids' menu bolted on.
2.Baduzzi
Ben Bayly's meatballs and a NZ$5 kids' pasta by the water; come with children for the harbourside Italian.
Baduzzi runs from 10-26 Jellicoe Street in the Wynyard Quarter, the waterfront Italian from executive chef Ben Bayly. The signature crayfish meatballs, the saffron and potato tortellini that won an Iconic Auckland Eats award in 2026, and the buttered pasta carry the menu.
Adult mains run roughly NZ$36 to NZ$46, but the bambini menu keeps it easy with pasta at NZ$5 and schnitzel at NZ$10. The waterfront tables and the relaxed room make it the upscale family pick where parents eat seriously while children stay happy.
3.Farina
Neapolitan pizza and a full Bambini menu on Ponsonby Road; come with children for the wood-fired pies and gelato.
Farina has anchored 244 Ponsonby Road since opening, the Neapolitan room named the 2025 Metropolitan Restaurant of the Year. The wood-fired pizza, the handmade pasta and the Nutella-folded pizza for dessert carry the kitchen.
Pizzas run roughly NZ$24 to NZ$30, so a family meal lands near NZ$32 a head. The Bambini menu of simple pasta, lasagna, classic pizza and gelato gives children their own order while parents get a serious Italian dinner; it is closed Mondays.
4.Water Boy
Coastal pub plates and a kids' menu across from the beach at St Heliers; come with children after a swim.
Water Boy opened in 2025 at 413 Tamaki Drive on the St Heliers beachfront, a light, sandy-toned room with big windows onto the water and a sun-filled courtyard. The oysters, the wood-fired pizzas, the smoked brisket bites and the kingfish tiradito carry an elevated coastal-pub menu.
Mains run roughly NZ$26 to NZ$36, so a meal lands near NZ$34 a head. There is a dedicated kids' menu and a playground and beach a stone's throw away, which makes it the easy after-the-beach family dinner across the bay.
5.Harbour Eats
A 650-seat food hall with a vendor for every fussy eater in the family; come downtown when tastes do not agree.
Harbour Eats is the internationally-inspired food hall on Level 2 of Commercial Bay in the CBD, with more than 650 seats under one roof. Wise Boys plant-based burgers, Aroy Thai pad thai, dumplings, pitas and sushi let everyone order their own thing.
Plates run roughly NZ$12 to NZ$22, so a family meal lands near NZ$20 a head. The shared-table layout and the spread of cuisines make it the answer when one child wants a burger, another wants dumplings and the parents want something better than either.
6.Andy's Burgers & Bar
Robot waiters Buzz and Bella deliver the burgers at the base of the Sky Tower; come with children for the show.
Andy's Burgers & Bar runs from 91 Federal Street inside the SkyCity complex at the base of the Sky Tower, where service robots Buzz and Bella bring the orders to the table. The burgers, the fried chicken and the cheesy bacon fries carry the menu.
The kids' burger runs about NZ$15 and adult burgers near NZ$24, so a family meal lands near NZ$28 a head. The robots are the whole point for children, and the central location sits near Weta Workshop Unleashed for a full day out downtown.
Not for everyone
A ferry away, adults-only, or not for children
The Heke (Waiheke Island). The Heke on Waiheke is a genuinely brilliant family room, four acres with an inflatable jumping pillow, Tonka trucks and wood-fired pizza. It is left off the ranking only because it is a 40-minute ferry from the city; make it the day trip, not the weeknight dinner, and use the rooms above for in-town.
Orbit revolving restaurant. The Sky Tower's slowly rotating dining room is a memorable novelty and children do enjoy the view, but it is built and priced for a special-occasion adult dinner, not a casual family meal. Take the kids to Andy's at the base of the same tower instead.
Paris Butter and Cocoro. Auckland's degustation rooms, including the dimly-lit Paris Butter and the Japanese counter Cocoro, are long, hushed adult evenings. They are superb for a date or a celebration, but a multi-course tasting menu is the opposite of a family meal; the rooms above are built for children.
How to eat with children in Auckland
["Auckland's family rooms split between the waterfront, where Baduzzi and Harbour Eats sit a short walk apart in the CBD and Wynyard Quarter, the western park at The Grounds in the Henderson Valley, and the eastern bays at Water Boy in St Heliers. A beach or a playground is built into most of them.", "For a weekend with children, pair an early dinner with the distraction on site: the playground at The Grounds, the beach at Water Boy, the robots at Andy's. The CBD rooms fill at lunch around the shops, so book Baduzzi ahead and walk up to Harbour Eats."]Frequently asked
