Krabi — Editorial Overview
Krabi Province's fine-dining scene is engineered around two legendary properties — Rayavadee (on the isolated Railay peninsula, accessible only by boat) and Phulay Bay, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve (on the mainland at Nopparat Thara). Between them they hold the most iconic dining settings in Thailand: a candle-lit limestone cave on Phra Nang Beach, a private Thai pavilion at the edge of the sea, a Mediterranean beachfront by the Andaman.
Dining Neighbourhoods
Railay peninsula — boat-only access from Ao Nang or Krabi Town — is where Rayavadee sits. The Grotto and Krua Phranang are here. Nopparat Thara / Tub Kaek is the mainland luxury strip — Phulay Bay (Ritz-Carlton Reserve) and Tubkaak Boutique Resort anchor the dining here. Ao Nang — the mainstream tourist strip — is where independent restaurants like Lae Lay Grill capture the sunset over the limestone karsts.
Dining Culture & Reservations
Krabi's cuisine is Southern Thai — coconut curries, fresh Andaman seafood (tiger prawns, rock lobster, grouper), and a heat level that Bangkok politely smooths. Many kitchens are Muslim-run, so pork is rarer than elsewhere in Thailand. Dress is tropical-smart at the luxury rooms (long trousers preferred but not required). Tipping 10 per cent on top of service is normal. The fine-dining rooms all serve wine.
Tips From the Editors
Book The Grotto one month ahead in high season (November–March) — it takes thirty tables, period, and a proposal at sunset on Phra Nang is why people fly to Krabi in the first place. Book a daytime boat to Railay and stay through dinner. For the mainland, Phulay Bay's Jampoon and Sri Trang both open to outside diners. Lae Lay Grill's rooftop at Ao Nang is the best non-resort sunset view in the province.
