About Kashgar Old Town Cafe

Kashgar Old Town Cafe is one of the city's contemporary Uyghur-cafe destinations — operating from a converted traditional Uyghur courtyard house in the Old City pedestrian district, the kitchen serves a Uyghur-Western fusion menu in a comfortable cafe-format that contrasts with the standard Uyghur-restaurant scene. The cafe is particularly popular with younger Chinese tourists, Uyghur-resident professionals, and visiting Western travellers seeking a daytime relaxed atmosphere.

The menu is broad. Uyghur classics — laghman, polo, samsa, lamb kebab (similar prices to other Uyghur kitchens). Western section — pasta options (¥35-55), pizza (¥45-75), Western breakfast plates (¥25-45). Coffee programme — espresso-based drinks, Uyghur-style green tea, the regional Kashgar-spice latte (the kitchen's signature). Pastry — Uyghur-style sweet breads, regional honey-and-walnut pastries, Western-style scones and cookies. A meal of two fusion mains and drinks for two runs ¥80-150.

The room is the architectural set-piece. The converted-traditional-Uyghur-courtyard-house has the original mud-brick walls, hand-painted Uyghur decorative ceiling motifs, low-set traditional cushion-and-floor-rug seating in some side galleries, and a small inner courtyard with mature shade trees used for outdoor dining in dry weather. Capacity is forty across the indoor section plus twenty in the courtyard.

Walk-ins always work outside Chinese-tourist peak weeks; cards are accepted; the staff speak Uyghur, Mandarin, and English. The cafe runs lunch-and-dinner with a quieter mid-afternoon coffee service.
