The Room
Benjamin Berg opened Yia Yia Mary's on San Felipe in 2019 — Berg Hospitality's Galleria Greek expression, dedicated to the proposition that Houston needed a serious Greek family-restaurant at full kitchen scale. The dining room is intentionally bright: white walls, blue accents, an oak-shaded patio that reads as Mediterranean-Houston.
Eater Houston has held Yia Yia Mary's on its top-Galleria rankings every year of operation.
The Food
The mezze programme — hummus, tzatziki, taramosalata, marinated vegetables — runs the small-plate opening. The wood-grilled lamb, the seasonal Greek seafood, the spit-roasted lamb-shoulder for tables of six handle the menu's wider draws.
Greek wine programme runs assyrtiko and Greek reds. Cocktail bench is Mediterranean-led. Service is the Berg-Hospitality standard.
Best Occasion Fit
First Date: The patio at Yia Yia Mary's is one of the Galleria's most-reliable first-date seats. The mezze shares well, the Greek wine programme is the conversation.
Birthday: Birthdays at Yia Yia Mary's are warm, family-Greek affairs the room handles with the practiced ease of a Berg-Hospitality operation.
Team Dinner: The back patio handles tables of eight to fourteen. The family-style Greek format scales naturally.
