Rome resisted brunch for years, then a Danish-trained bakery in Ostiense and a vintage tearoom near Piazza Navona made it stick. The city does it on weekends only, and the good rooms book out by noon. These six, ranked, are where to eat a long Roman Saturday or Sunday morning that is more than a cornetto at the bar.
1.Marigold
Rome's best modern brunch, a Danish-Italian bakery in Ostiense for sourdough and cardamom buns; arrive before eleven.
Marigold, run by Sofie Wochner and Domenico Cortese at Via Giovanni da Empoli 37 in Ostiense, brought specialty coffee and a proper weekend brunch to Rome. The poached eggs on house sourdough run about €14 and the Scandinavian cinnamon and cardamom buns are the draw.
Brunch is weekends only, nine to three, first-come-first-served, and the bright Scandi room fills fast. Arrive before eleven on a Saturday for a table, or take the bread and a flat white to go.
2.Coromandel
A vintage-charm room near Piazza Navona for six kinds of pancakes and eggs Benedict; book the weekend table.
Coromandel sits at Via di Monte Giordano 60, a few steps from Piazza Navona, in a room of delicate porcelain and antique furniture. The weekend brunch runs six styles of pancake, French toast, eggs Benedict and avocado toast, with most plates around €12 to €18.
It opens early and runs a longer weekend service, eight-thirty to three-thirty on Saturday and Sunday. Reserve for weekend brunch, as the small dining room books up across the morning.
3.Vivi Bistrot
A leafy organic brunch inside Villa Pamphili park; book the garden room and bring the kids.
Vivi Bistrot runs several Rome locations, but the Villa Pamphili room inside the city's largest park is the one for weekend brunch. Organic scrambled eggs on wholewheat toast with roasted cherry tomatoes, pancakes and granola sit around €12 to €18.
The setting is green and unhurried, with the park outside for children to run. Brunch is weekend-only, so reserve the garden room and make a morning of the park and the plates.
4.Porto Fluviale
A big industrial Ostiense room runs a fixed-price weekend brunch of about sixty dishes; come hungry and early.
Porto Fluviale, a large all-day room at Via del Porto Fluviale 22 in Ostiense, runs a weekend brunch built around a rotation of roughly sixty dishes for a fixed price near €19 without drinks. It is the value pick and the easiest with a group.
The industrial space is loud and casual, good for families and big tables. Come early on a Saturday or Sunday, as the spread is busiest in the late morning and the best dishes go first.
5.Babington's Tea Rooms
A 1893 tearoom at the Spanish Steps for a full English breakfast and Benedicts; book a window table.
Babington's has poured tea at Piazza di Spagna 23, beside the Spanish Steps, since 1893. It serves a full English breakfast, eggs Benedict and pancakes daily, paired with its own teas; expect about €25 to €35 a head for the tourist-room setting.
It is the most traditional pick here and the only one open every day, useful when the weekend-only rooms are closed. Book a window table for the view of the steps and a slow pot of tea.
6.Barnum Cafe
A relaxed Campo de' Fiori cafe for French-style croissants and good coffee; walk in for a light weekend brunch.
Barnum Cafe sits at Via del Pellegrino 87 near Campo de' Fiori, a relaxed all-day room known for flaky French-style croissants, specialty coffee and a short brunch of eggs and toast. Plates and pastries sit around €8 to €16.
The room is loungey and unfussy, good for a late, light weekend morning rather than a full sit-down feast. Walk in for the coffee and a croissant, then linger over the papers.
Not for everyone
Famous, but not actually brunch
La Pergola. Heinz Beck's three-Michelin-star room atop the Rome Cavalieri is a dinner-only tasting menu, not a brunch destination. It is a landmark evening, but do not arrive on a Sunday morning expecting eggs.
Roscioli. The beloved Salumeria con Cucina near Campo de' Fiori is a deli and lunch-and-dinner room, closed Sundays and not a brunch service. Go for the carbonara and the cheese counter at lunch, not a weekend brunch.
Armando al Pantheon. The classic family trattoria by the Pantheon is a lunch-and-dinner Roman institution with no brunch and tight booking. Save it for a proper plate of cacio e pepe, not a morning egg.
How to brunch well in Rome
Roman brunch is a weekend habit, not a daily one, and it concentrates in two pockets: Ostiense in the south for the modern bakery rooms, and the centro storico around Piazza Navona and Campo de' Fiori for the all-day cafes. Most kitchens run brunch only on Saturday and Sunday, roughly ten to three.
Reserve ahead at the destination rooms, because the good tables fill by noon and several spots, including Marigold, run first-come-first-served with a real wait. For a daily option when the weekend rooms are closed, Babington's at the Spanish Steps serves breakfast every day.
Frequently asked
Where is the best brunch in Rome?

Does Rome do brunch?

Do you need a reservation for brunch in Rome?
Yes at the destination rooms. Coromandel and Vivi Bistrot fill their weekend tables by noon, so reserve rather than walk up. Marigold and Porto Fluviale run first-come-first-served, so arrive before eleven on a Saturday or expect a wait.
What is a good family brunch in Rome?

Is Babington's still open in Rome?
Yes. Babington's Tea Rooms at Piazza di Spagna 23 has poured tea beside the Spanish Steps since 1893 and still serves breakfast and brunch daily. It is the most traditional pick and the rare Roman brunch room open every day of the week.
