Mala fries its eggs steps from the water on Front Street, and a half-hour south Kihei Caffe has been pouring island coffee since 1998. Maui brunch is an oceanfront, sit-on-the-lanai event, not a hotel buffet line. These six, ranked, are where to spend a slow morning on the island when the view earns its place at the table.
1.Mala Ocean Tavern
The first Front Street room to reopen after the fire; book an oceanfront table for the kalua pork eggs benedict.
Mala Ocean Tavern sits at 1307 Front Street in Lahaina and was the first restaurant to reopen on the strip after the 2023 wildfire, back in business since February 2024. Brunch runs daily until 2pm, built around an oceanfront lanai a few feet from the surf.
The kalua pork eggs benedict and the fresh-fish plates land in the $18 to $28 range, and the room earned a 2025 Hale Aina Award. Reserve the rail seats; the water, not the kitchen alone, is the reason to come early.
2.Kihei Caffe
Maui's cult breakfast counter across from Kalama Beach; come at dawn for the loco moco before the line wraps the block.
Kihei Caffe has run across from Kalama Beach Park at 1945 South Kihei Road since 1998, an order-at-the-counter institution that locals and visitors queue for by 7am. There is no reservation; the line is the price of admission.
The loco moco and the macadamia-nut pancakes sit around $12 to $18, portions are huge, and a newer Maui Coast Hotel location takes the pressure off the original. Come at opening or eat at the quieter second room.
3.Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman
Peter Merriman's all-day Wailea room for farm-to-table plates and a lilikoi mai tai; book the Gateway Center patio.
Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman opened at the Wailea Gateway Center under Hawaii-regional pioneer Peter Merriman and runs an all-day menu from noon. It pairs farm-sourced cooking with the signature mai tai capped in lilikoi foam.
Hand-tossed pizzas and island plates run roughly $18 to $32, the patio is the seat to ask for, and the bar list is the deepest in the South Maui rotation. Book ahead on weekends when Wailea fills.
4.Three's Bar & Grill
A Kihei weekend brunch of three-chef fusion plates and bottomless mimosas; come Saturday for the Kalama Village patio.
Three's Bar & Grill anchors Kalama Village at 1945 South Kihei Road and runs a weekend brunch built on the blended Pacific, Mexican and Southwest cooking of its three founding chefs. The Saturday and Sunday service is the draw.
Brunch plates and the loaded breakfast burrito sit around $15 to $24, with a bottomless-mimosa option, and the patio carries live music. Reserve the weekend table rather than walk up to the bar.
5.Humble Market Kitchin
Roy Yamaguchi's Wailea Beach room for a polished resort brunch with an ocean view; book a window before noon.
Humble Market Kitchin by Roy Yamaguchi runs inside the Wailea Beach Resort and serves a resort brunch from the James Beard winner who built Roy's into a Pacific-Rim empire. The dining room frames a direct ocean view.
The omelet station and local-style breakfast plates sit in the $20 to $34 range, service is polished, and the setting is the most formal on this list. Book a window table before noon and let the view do the work.
6.Ulana
A reimagined Kaanapali breakfast of local favorites and traditional plates; come for an unhurried resort morning.
Ulana, the reimagined breakfast room at the Westin Kaanapali, serves an a la carte morning menu of traditional and local favorites rather than the old buffet. It is the West Maui pick for a sit-down resort breakfast away from Lahaina's busier strip.
Banana-bread French toast and loco moco run around $16 to $26, the pace is slow, and the room suits a late, unhurried start. Come on a weekday morning when the resort crowd thins.
Not for everyone
Closed, or not actually brunch
Gannon's. The Bev Gannon Wailea room has closed and now operates as Gather on Maui; the old Sunday brunch is off the live ranking. For a Wailea morning, Monkeypod or Humble Market Kitchin are the working alternatives.
Lahaina Grill. The fine-dining Lahaina room is a dinner destination, not a brunch service. It is one of the island's best evening tables, but do not arrive on a Saturday morning expecting eggs.
Mama's Fish House. Paia's iconic seafood room is a lunch-and-dinner institution with a months-out reservation list, not a casual brunch. Book it for a long lunch, not a quick weekend stack.
How to brunch well on Maui
Maui brunch splits across three zones: West Maui along Lahaina's Front Street, the casual Kihei strip on South Kihei Road, and the polished Wailea resorts a few minutes further south. None is far, so a slow morning can move from an oceanfront tavern to a resort lanai without a long drive.
The counter rooms like Kihei Caffe do not take reservations and the line forms by 7am, so come at opening or pick the quieter second location. The Wailea resort rooms fill on weekends, so reserve a window table at Monkeypod or Humble Market Kitchin rather than walk up.
Frequently asked
Where is the best brunch on Maui?
Mala Ocean Tavern on Lahaina's Front Street is the marquee oceanfront pick, the first room to reopen on the strip after the 2023 fire, with brunch served daily until 2pm. For a cult island breakfast, Kihei Caffe across from Kalama Beach has run since 1998; for a polished Wailea morning, Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman.
Does Maui have oceanfront brunch?
Yes. Mala Ocean Tavern in Lahaina seats brunch a few feet from the surf, and the Wailea rooms, Humble Market Kitchin by Roy Yamaguchi and Monkeypod Kitchen, frame ocean and resort views. Ask for a rail or window table and reserve on weekends.
Do you need a reservation for brunch on Maui?
At the resort rooms, yes. Monkeypod Kitchen and Humble Market Kitchin fill weekend tables, so reserve rather than walk up. The counter spots, Kihei Caffe and Three's, run first-come, so the line is the wait; arrive at opening to skip it.
Is Gannon's still open on Maui?
No. Bev Gannon's Wailea restaurant has closed and the space now operates as Gather on Maui, so the old Sunday brunch is off the live ranking. For a Wailea brunch nearby, Monkeypod Kitchen and Humble Market Kitchin are the working alternatives.
What is the best resort brunch in Wailea?
Humble Market Kitchin by Roy Yamaguchi at the Wailea Beach Resort runs the most polished resort brunch, with an ocean-view dining room and plates around $20 to $34. Monkeypod Kitchen at the Wailea Gateway Center is the more casual, all-day alternative with the lilikoi mai tai.
