Mallorca's brunch lives in Palma, and mostly in Santa Catalina, the old fishermen's quarter that Australian baristas and specialty roasters have remade into the island's coffee heart. The rest is a rooftop or two with a Sunday spread over the cathedral. These six, ranked, are where to spend a weekend morning in the city, from a flat white in a quiet lane to a champagne brunch eight floors up.
1.CUIT
The Nakar Hotel rooftop; book the Sunday brunch eight floors up for a long spread over the Palma rooftops.
CUIT sits on the 8th floor of the Nakar Hotel at Avenida Jaume III 21 in central Palma, with the hotel's rooftop bar one floor above. Its Sunday brunch runs from 12 to 3 p.m. at around 35 euros a person, a Mediterranean spread with a view across the old town toward the cathedral.
The draw is the height and the long lazy format, a Sunday rather than a quick coffee. Reserve a terrace table ahead, time it for the early sitting to beat the heat, and pair the meal with a drink on the rooftop bar above. Come for the city's signature destination brunch with a view.
2.Surry Hills Coffee & Brunch
The old-town Australian cafe; come to Carrer del Carme for a flat white and Sydney-style brunch in a quiet lane.
Surry Hills brought Sydney brunch to Palma's old town at Carrer del Carme 12, a specialty coffee shop in a tranquil lane named for the Sydney suburb. The flat whites and the avocado-and-egg plates are the orders, with brunch dishes generally 10 to 18 euros and weekend hours from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It is the antidote to the rooftop scene: small, calm and built on the coffee rather than the view. Walk-in early on a weekend before the lane fills. Come for an Australian-style brunch and one of the better coffees in the city, then wander the old-town streets a few steps away.
3.Santina
The Santa Catalina market-side cafe; come for poached eggs, Belgian waffles and poke bowls just off the market.
Santina sits just outside the Santa Catalina market at Plaça Rei Joan Carles I 9, a bright cafe with a menu that runs healthy alongside the classics. Poached eggs, Belgian waffles, bagels and poke bowls lead the card, with vegan and gluten-free options and brunch plates around 9 to 16 euros.
Weekend hours stretch to mid-afternoon, and the market location makes it an easy stop before or after the produce stalls. It takes walk-ins, busier on weekend mornings. Come for a fresh, health-leaning brunch in the city's most food-focused neighbourhood and grab a table on the square outside.
4.BACAN
The neighbourhood coffee specialist; come for Turkish eggs and a back-terrace flat white away from the crowds.
BACAN is a neighbourhood specialty-coffee cafe with a small terrace tucked at the back, the kind of room coffee people seek out in Palma. Turkish eggs, eggs Benedict, loaded toasts, acai bowls and pancakes anchor a fresh brunch menu, with plates generally 8 to 15 euros.
The focus is the coffee and a calmer pace than the tourist strips. The hidden back terrace is the seat to ask for. It runs on walk-ins, so come mid-morning on a weekend and settle in. This is a brunch for the flat-white crowd rather than the buffet crowd, well-made and unhurried.
5.Mama Carmen's
The Santa Catalina health cafe; come for smoothie bowls, avocado toast and artisan coffee in the coffee quarter.
Mama Carmen's works the Santa Catalina neighbourhood with a health-conscious cafe menu of bright smoothie bowls, artisan coffee and avocado toast made with fresh ingredients. Brunch plates run roughly 8 to 15 euros, and the room sits among the quarter's clustered cafes and bars.
It is a reliable, light, breakfast-forward option for the mornings you want fruit and coffee rather than a heavy plate. Walk-ins work, and weekend mid-mornings are the busy window. Come for a quick, healthy Santa Catalina brunch and then explore the surrounding lanes, which hold much of Palma's best coffee.
6.El Perrito
The cosy Santa Catalina favourite; come for homestyle plates and a relaxed weekend brunch in the coffee quarter.
El Perrito is a cosy, inviting cafe in Santa Catalina with a menu built as a tribute to traditional homemade cooking, generation-old recipes given a brunch turn. The eggs, the bakes and the daily plates are the draw, with brunch dishes generally 9 to 16 euros in a warm, lived-in room.
It sits among the neighbourhood's favourite brunch spots and trades trend for comfort. Walk-ins are the norm, busier on weekend mornings. Come for an easy, homestyle brunch and a coffee in Santa Catalina when you want the neighbourhood feel rather than a rooftop view or a queue.
Not for everyone
Worth a meal, not for brunch
Marc Fosh. The Michelin-starred room in central Palma is one of the island's best lunches and dinners, but it runs a tasting and a la carte service, not a weekend brunch. Save it for a longer midday or evening meal.
DINS Santi Taura. The Michelin-starred Mallorcan tasting room in the El Llorenc hotel is an evening destination, not a brunch spot. It belongs on an anniversary or special-occasion list.
Es Princep rooftop. ALMAQ atop Hotel Es Princep has one of Palma's best sea views and a fine evening menu, but it leans dinner and cocktails rather than a weekend brunch. Go for sunset drinks instead.
How to brunch well in Mallorca
Mallorca's brunch is a Palma story, and within Palma it is largely a Santa Catalina story. The old fishermen's quarter holds Santina, Mama Carmen's and El Perrito within a few blocks, alongside much of the island's specialty coffee. Surry Hills sits over in the old town proper, and CUIT is the one true rooftop brunch, on Sundays only.
The cafes run on walk-ins and fill on weekend mornings, so come before the heat and the crowd. CUIT's Sunday brunch is the one that wants a reservation. Most of these rooms are an easy walk apart, so park once near Santa Catalina and explore on foot. For more of the island, see our Mallorca anniversary ranking and the Mallorca family ranking.
