Key West brunches outdoors, in courtyards and on porches under tropical trees, and the island does it with island flavour: lobster Benedict among roaming roosters, French crepes on upper Duval, fried chicken on a waffle over the Atlantic. The best rooms run breakfast and brunch late into the morning, no rush. These six, ranked, are where to start the day in 2026.
1.Blue Heaven
The island's iconic courtyard brunch; lobster Benedict and very good pancakes among the roaming roosters.
Blue Heaven cooks in a tree-shaded courtyard at 729 Thomas Street in Bahama Village, open since 1992 in an 1886 building that once hosted Hemingway-refereed boxing. The lobster Benedict, Richard's Very Good Pancakes and the mile-high key lime pie are the plates it is known for, with brunch mains in the mid-range.
The setting, free-roaming roosters and all, is the most Key West brunch there is, and it won the local Best Brunch award in 2023. Come for breakfast served daily to 2:30 p.m., expect a wait, and order the lobster Benedict. It is the one brunch on the island no visitor should skip.
2.Louie's Backyard
An oceanfront weekend brunch in a historic house; fried chicken on a waffle with the Atlantic at your table.
Louie's Backyard sits oceanfront at 700 Waddell Avenue on the island's southern edge, an upscale new-American room in a historic house with a deck over the water. The weekend brunch runs fried chicken on a waffle and poached eggs on a sourdough crumpet, with plates at the higher end of the island's range.
The setting, the Atlantic lapping just beyond the deck, makes it the most scenic brunch table in Key West. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday only, so book ahead for a deck seat. Come for the view as much as the cooking, and stay for a long, slow morning.
3.Banana Cafe
A French creperie on upper Duval; sweet and savoury crepes and a salmon omelet from owner Daniel Balbi.
Banana Cafe, Daniel Balbi's French bistro and creperie at 1215 Duval Street, has been a quieter end-of-Duval breakfast fixture for years. Sweet and savoury crepes lead the menu alongside a salmon omelet and eggs benedict, with plates in the mid-range, served from early morning.
It is the island's go-to for a French brunch, calmer than the Old Town courtyards and open daily. Come for the crepes and a coffee on the porch, away from the Duval crush. A reliable, unhurried morning table on the quieter stretch of the strip.
4.Salute! On The Beach
An open-air beachfront brunch on Higgs Beach; coastal Italian and local fish with sand underfoot.
Salute! On The Beach sits right on Higgs Beach at 1000 Atlantic Boulevard, an open-air Italian-coastal room with tables in the sand. Weekend mornings bring a brunch of local fish and coastal Italian plates, opening at 8 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with mains in the mid-range.
It is the brunch for anyone who wants the beach itself rather than a courtyard or deck. Come early on a weekend for a table by the water, order the fish, and let the morning run long. The setting, toes in the sand, is the whole point.
5.Moondog Cafe
An all-day cafe beside the Hemingway House; pasture-raised egg plates and shakshuka with a gluten-free bakery.
Moondog Cafe runs at 823 Whitehead Street next to the Hemingway House, the room that took over the long-shuttered Six Toed Cat space. The menu leans toward pasture-raised egg plates, Mediterranean shakshuka and breakfast burritos, with a gluten-free bakery and plates in the mid-range, open daily.
It is the everyday Old Town brunch, well placed for a morning at the Hemingway House next door. Come for the shakshuka or an egg plate and a pastry from the bakery. A dependable, slightly healthier option among the island's richer brunch tables.
6.Old Town Bakery
A scratch bakery on Eaton Street for a grab-and-go brunch; breakfast sandwiches, danishes and key lime pie.
Old Town Bakery at 930 Eaton Street is a small scratch bakery and cafe with only a handful of seats inside. The breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, cheese danishes and key lime pie make it the casual, fast end of the island's brunch options, with everything at the lower end of the range.
With limited seating it is best treated as a grab-and-go morning rather than a sit-down brunch. Come early, take a breakfast sandwich and a danish to a bench or the beach, and skip the courtyard wait. It rounds out the list as the quick, cheap, very good option.
Not for everyone
Famous, but not for brunch
Cafe Sole. The French-Caribbean room from chef John Correa is one of the island's best kitchens, but it serves dinner only, from 5 p.m. Visitors sometimes expect brunch here; book it for an evening of hog snapper instead.
Sarabeth's Key West. The famous brand's island outpost runs seasonally and was listed closed in spring 2026. Do not count on its lemon-ricotta pancakes for a summer brunch; confirm it has reopened before you plan a visit.
Six Toed Cat. This once-popular breakfast spot never reopened after Hurricane Irma, and its Whitehead Street space is now Moondog Cafe. It still turns up on old lists, so book Moondog at the same address instead.
How to brunch in Key West
Brunch here happens outdoors and mostly in Old Town and Bahama Village, where Blue Heaven, Moondog and Old Town Bakery sit within a short walk, while Louie's and Salute! trade the courtyard for the water on the island's southern shore. The island is small, so you can wander between two on foot or a quick bike ride.
Weekends and the high winter season bring waits, especially at Blue Heaven, so arrive early or expect to queue. Louie's serves brunch only on Saturday and Sunday and takes bookings for a deck seat, while the courtyards and cafes run breakfast daily and walk-in. Plan around the heat and aim for a shaded or breezy table.
