Best Restaurants for Brunch in Johannesburg (2026)

Weekend brunch · Johannesburg · 6 rooms ranked · Updated June 2026

Joburg brunch happens on a pavement under a jacaranda or on a rooftop over the Sandton skyline, and the city does both with conviction. Weekends here run long: a breakfast basket on 4th Avenue, a boozy spread in a leafy courtyard, a coffee that placed in a global ranking. These six, ranked, are where to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning across Parkhurst, Sandton and the city's quieter suburbs.

1.Nice on 4th

Cafe · Parkhurst · Pavement brunch institution

Parkhurst's pavement institution; queue for the hollowed-loaf breakfast basket on 4th Avenue's busiest brunch strip.

Nice on 4th anchors the brunch strip at 37 4th Avenue in Parkhurst, the cafe locals queue outside on weekends. Its signature is the breakfast basket, a hollowed-out loaf filled with eggs, toppings and sauces; that and the eggs Benedict lead a menu where brunch plates run roughly R90 to R160.

The room is cosy and the pavement tables are the seat to claim, on Parkhurst's busiest restaurant row. The 9 to 11 a.m. weekend rush is real, so come early or expect a wait. This is the definitive Parkhurst brunch and a good base for a long morning on the avenue.

2.San Deck

South African · Sandton Sun · Rooftop brunch

The Sandton skyline rooftop; book a deck table for a sparkling-wine brunch over the city's business district.

San Deck is the rooftop bar and restaurant at the Sandton Sun hotel, looking over the Sandton skyline. The weekend brunch leans on local, seasonal produce, with freshly baked pastries, omelettes and a cheese-and-charcuterie selection, plates generally R150 to R260, plus a glass of sparkling wine.

The draw is the elevated deck and the view across the business district, a more polished setting than the suburban cafes. Reserve a deck table for a weekend late morning, dress a notch up from pavement-brunch casual, and pair the meal with a slow afternoon by the pool. Come for the view as much as the plate.

3.Croft & Co

Cafe · Parkview · Neighbourhood brunch

Parkview's neighbourhood favourite; come for buttery croissants, eggs Benedict and top-tier coffee in a community room.

Croft & Co sits in the leafy suburb of Parkview, a community cafe where regulars seem to know each other. Top-tier coffee, buttery croissants and a well-made eggs Benedict are the orders, with brunch plates around R85 to R150 and a laid-back room that fills with families on weekends.

It trades the Parkhurst crowds for a calmer, neighbourhood feel near the Zoo Lake green belt. Walk-ins work outside peak, though a weekend mid-morning slot is busy. Come for an unhurried suburban brunch and a flat white, and take a stroll around Parkview's tree-lined streets afterward.

4.The Whippet

Cafe bar · Linden · All-day brunch

Linden's award-winning coffee bar; come for an all-day brunch in a historic hotel building, no reservation needed.

The Whippet occupies the historic Old Linden Hotel in Linden, a bright, airy cafe bar that was named one of the Top 100 coffee shops in the world at a 2025 Madrid awards. Its all-day brunch runs from a big farm breakfast and eggs Benedict to smashed-burger tacos and a rump-steak sandwich, with plates roughly R80 to R170.

Specialty teas, homemade dishes and craft beer round out a menu that suits a long sit. It takes walk-ins and the heritage building gives it more character than the strip cafes. Come for a relaxed all-day brunch in the northwest suburbs and stay for a coffee that earned a global nod.

5.Salvation Cafe

Cafe · 44 Stanley, Milpark · Courtyard brunch

The 44 Stanley courtyard hideaway; walk in for a beautifully plated brunch in a leafy urban escape near the city.

Salvation Cafe is tucked inside the leafy courtyard of 44 Stanley in Milpark, a long-running room known for beautifully plated brunch dishes and a small-urban-escape feel close to the city centre. The eggs, the bowls and the bakes are the draw, with brunch plates generally R80 to R150.

The catch is the door policy: no weekend breakfast bookings, walk-ins only, so arrive early on a Saturday or Sunday. The 44 Stanley precinct holds boutiques and a wine shop for an after-brunch wander. Come for a design-conscious courtyard brunch and a coffee in one of Joburg's prettier hidden corners.

6.Pablo

Cafe and bar · Sandton · Boozy brunch

Sandton's boozy all-rounder; book for a wide brunch menu, a vegan harissa-tofu plate and a long drinks list.

Pablo is a swanky Sandton brunch room with a menu built to cover a whole table, from classic eggs to a scrambled harissa-tofu plate for vegans. Brunch dishes run roughly R110 to R200, backed by an extensive drinks list for a boozy weekend start near the business hubs.

The setting is sleeker than the suburban cafes and sits within easy reach of the Sandton hotels and offices. Reserve a table for a weekend late morning, especially with a larger group, and lean on the cocktail and bubbly list. Come for a social, drinks-forward brunch when the table wants range and a bar.

Not for everyone

Strong rooms, wrong meal

Marble. David Higgs's wood-fire room in Rosebank is one of Joburg's best dinners and a fine lunch, but it is not a dedicated weekend brunch spot. Save it for an evening over the skyline.

DW Eleven-13. The Dunkeld fine-dining room runs a chef's menu at lunch and dinner, not a brunch service. It belongs on an anniversary or client-dinner list, not a Saturday-morning one.

The Hophouse. A solid gastropub, but it opens around lunch and runs into the evening on beer and pub plates, with no morning brunch. Go for a long lunch rather than an early start.

How to brunch well in Johannesburg

Joburg's brunch scene splits by suburb. Parkhurst's 4th Avenue and Parkview hold the pavement-cafe brunches, casual, family-heavy and walk-in friendly. Sandton runs the polished rooftop and boozy-brunch rooms that want a booking. Linden and Milpark cover the character spots, the Whippet in a heritage hotel and Salvation in a courtyard precinct.

The weekend rush is real at the popular cafes, so come before 10 a.m. or after the first sitting, and note that Salvation Cafe takes no weekend breakfast bookings at all. For the rooftop and Sandton rooms, reserve a few days out. For more of the city, see our Johannesburg anniversary ranking and the Johannesburg view dining ranking.
