A first date in Frankfurt is best taken on the quiet side of the Main, in the owner-run bistros of Sachsenhausen and the calm design rooms by the Museumsufer rather than the loud banking-district bars. Maaschanz pours a small French dinner near the river; Emma Metzler sits in a museum park. These six rooms, ranked, are warm, conversation-easy and easy to split, the right places to meet someone over dinner.

1.Maaschanz

French bistro · Sachsenhausen / Färberstraße · Near the Main

A small owner-run French bistro near the river, warm, relaxed and easy to split, the best all-round first-date room.

Maaschanz, the owner-run bistro at Färberstraße 75 in Sachsenhausen near the Main, rotates a different French region through its menu each month. The tarte flambée and the seasonal seafood specials anchor the card, with mains around 18 to 32 euro and set menus 40 to 52, all easy to split on a first date.

The warm, attentive owner service is the selling point, relaxed rather than formal, the register a first date wants. Book a table near the river, take the monthly French specials, and let the small room keep the conversation close.

2.Emma Metzler

Modern German · Sachsenhausen / Museumsufer · Park terrace

A calm, design-forward room in a museum park, gentle on noise and fair on price, easy to talk across and split.

Emma Metzler, chef Anton de Bruyn's room inside the Museum für Angewandte Kunst by the Museumsufer, opens onto a terrace over Metzlerpark. The skin-grilled flounder with hazelnut and green mole runs around 35 euro, with mains 16 to 28 and a five-course menu at 69, and the kitchen appears in the Michelin Guide.

The park-side calm, the design-museum setting and the gentle noise level make it easy to talk and easy to split. Book a terrace table in good weather, order the flounder, and let the quiet room carry a first conversation.

3.Iimori

Japanese · Altstadt / Braubachstraße · Plush upstairs room

A plush French-salon Japanese room in the Altstadt, living-room cosy and low-stakes, with an easy bill to split.

Iimori, founder Azko Iimori's room at Braubachstraße 24 in the Altstadt, runs an accessible sushi and maki card upstairs above a French-Japanese patisserie. Most dishes average around 15 to 20 euro, which keeps the evening low-stakes, and the room appears in the Falstaff guide.

The upstairs room is plush and cosy, deep-red brocade and mirrors, living-room intimate rather than formal. Book the upstairs table, order a selection of sushi to share, and use the patisserie downstairs as the after for a first date.

4.Medici

Mediterranean · Altstadt / Weißadlergasse · Between Zeil and Römer

A central, refined Mediterranean room between the Zeil and the Römer, manageable pacing for an easy first conversation.

Medici, at Weißadlergasse 2 in the Altstadt between the Zeil and the Römer, cooks a daily-changing Mediterranean and fish menu and appears in the 2026 Michelin Guide. The seasonal fish dishes lead, with a five-course menu at 64 euro and à la carte at the mid-range, the pacing relaxed rather than intense.

The room is intimate and central, refined without the marathon of a tasting temple, the right balance for a first date. Book a weekday table, take the daily fish, and keep the meal to a few courses so the conversation leads.

5.Margarete

Contemporary German · Altstadt / Braubachstraße · Casual-elegant

A stylish but casual old-town room with a flexible budget, low-pressure first-date energy in a quieter evening space.

Margarete, at Braubachstraße 18-22 in the Altstadt, runs a contemporary German card and appears in the Falstaff guide. The grilled mackerel and the lamb shank anchor an evening menu around 42 to 54 euro, with lunch dishes from 16.50, so the budget flexes to the date.

Bistro-casual but stylish, with a quieter evening room, it carries an easy low-pressure energy. Book the evening table in the quieter space, take the seasonal menu, and keep the order simple and shareable.

6.Carmelo Greco

Italian · Sachsenhausen-Süd / Ziegelhüttenweg · One Michelin Star

A warm one-star Italian room, more romantic than austere, with a weekday surprise menu that makes a confident first-date splurge.

Carmelo Greco, the chef's one-star room at Ziegelhüttenweg 1-3 in Sachsenhausen-Süd, has held a Michelin star for around fifteen years in the 2026 guide. The Parmesan flan is the house signature, with handmade pasta and seafood around it, and a Monday-to-Thursday four-course surprise menu at 89 euro keeps a starred date doable.

The room is polished and warm rather than stiff, more romantic than most one-stars, a confident step up for a first date that wants to impress. Book the weekday surprise menu, take the Parmesan flan, and let the kitchen lead the evening.

Not for a first date

Famous, but the wrong fit

Restaurant Gustav. The two-star room closed at the end of July 2024 and chef Jochim Busch has since opened Rausch, so stale guides still listing it as starred are wrong; for a one-star date that is actually open, book Carmelo Greco.

Lafleur. Andreas Krolik's two-star room in the Palmengarten is open and excellent, but it is a long, formal tasting-menu temple, too intense and expensive for a first meeting; save it for an anniversary and start at Maaschanz.

Weinsinn. The former Michelin-starred room closed in 2024 and reopened as Sommerfeld, so any listing for Weinsinn is out of date; for a small, intimate first-date room, take Emma Metzler by the Museumsufer instead.

How to plan a first date in Frankfurt

The Frankfurt first date works best on the quiet side of the Main, in the owner-run bistros of Sachsenhausen and the calm rooms around the Altstadt and the Museumsufer, away from the loud banking-district bars. Maaschanz and Carmelo Greco hold Sachsenhausen, Emma Metzler the museum park, while Iimori, Medici and Margarete cover the old town.

Keep it warm and conversation-easy rather than grand, since a first date is about talking, not a tasting marathon. The mid-range bistros split cleanly, the sushi at Iimori and the bistro plates at Maaschanz easy to share, while Carmelo Greco's weekday surprise menu is the doable splurge if you want a star. Book the evening table, lead with the seasonal dishes, and let the smaller, quieter rooms carry the conversation.

Frequently asked

Where should I take a first date in Frankfurt?

Maaschanz, a small owner-run French bistro in Sachsenhausen near the Main, is the best all-round pick, warm and relaxed and easy to split. For a calm, design-led room, Emma Metzler sits in a museum park by the Museumsufer, while Iimori offers a plush, low-stakes Japanese room in the Altstadt.

Which Frankfurt restaurants are quiet enough for a date?

Maaschanz, Emma Metzler, the upstairs room at Iimori, Medici and Margarete are all small or calm enough to hold a conversation, on the quieter side of the Main or in the old town. Avoid the loud banking-district bars, and note that the busy supper-club rooms can be too lively for a first meeting.

How much does a first-date dinner cost in Frankfurt?

Expect roughly 30 to 60 euro a head with a drink at the mid-range bistros like Maaschanz, Emma Metzler and Margarete, where the menus split cleanly. If you want a starred room, Carmelo Greco's Monday-to-Thursday four-course surprise menu at 89 euro keeps the splurge doable for a first date.

Is Restaurant Gustav still open in Frankfurt?

No. Restaurant Gustav closed at the end of July 2024, and chef Jochim Busch has since opened Rausch, so any guide still listing Gustav as a starred restaurant is out of date. For a one-star room that is open and warm enough for a first date, book Carmelo Greco in Sachsenhausen-Süd instead.

What should I order on a first date in Frankfurt?

Keep the order shareable and the pacing relaxed: the tarte flambée and seasonal French plates at Maaschanz, a selection of sushi at Iimori, or the daily fish at Medici all suit a first date. If you book Carmelo Greco, take the weekday surprise menu and the Parmesan flan, and let the kitchen set the pace.
