1.Apéritif

Apéritif sits in the grounds of the Viceroy Bali in Ubud, an art-deco fine-dining room where Belgian chef Nic Vanderbeeken cooks a borderless degustation after twenty years in Michelin-starred kitchens. The dedicated private dining room seats up to twelve and opens directly onto the kitchen, so it doubles as a chef’s-table view.

2.Il Ristorante – Niko Romito

3.Kubu

Kubu sits along the Ayung River at the Mandapa Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Ubud, famous for its bamboo dining cocoons woven over the water. 4.Cuca

Cuca opened in Jimbaran in 2013, where Kevin Cherkas, an alumnus of elBulli, Arzak and Daniel, and Virginia Entizne run a kitchen of tapas, cocktails and desserts. It offers an exclusive private space for up to 40 guests, a raised chef’s counter facing the open kitchen, and floating-curtain semi-private tables in the coconut grove.
The Chef Tasting Meal runs around 960,000 rupiah, and the venue holds a Michelin Green Guide listing and a place on Tatler’s Indonesia list. This is the pick for a larger corporate or celebration group that wants a real buyout rather than a single private room.
5.Sangsaka
An adjoining private room for eighteen and a chef’s counter seat; the Seminyak pick chefs name as their own favourite.
Sangsaka hides down a back street in Seminyak, where Kieran and Yunika Morland cook a modern Indonesian tasting menu built on Javanese family recipes. It runs a genuine adjoining private dining room for up to 18, plus a private chef’s-counter seat and a rooftop bar for canapé events, so the layout flexes from a small room to a near-buyout.
The tasting menu lands around 50 US dollars, strong value for the cooking, and other Bali chefs regularly name it their favourite table. This is the insider’s choice, a private room with serious food and none of the resort markup.

Not for everyone
Famous, but not real private dining
Métis. The long-running Seminyak restaurant, lounge and gallery has closed, and the team has moved on to a new venue, so it can no longer host a private dinner. Do not book it for a group; it is no longer operating in its old form.
Sundara. The Four Seasons beach club in Jimbaran has cabanas and a fire degustation, but no dedicated private dining room or clear buyout product. It is a sunset beach-club setting rather than a true private-dining venue, so set expectations accordingly.
Koral. The aquarium room at the Apurva Kempinski in Nusa Dua is striking, but its tunnel tables are semi-private booths with a per-head minimum, not an enclosed private room. Lovely for two, but not the space for a confidential group dinner.

Bali’s private dining splits by area and by format.
