Best Restaurants Open Late in Auckland 2026

Open Late · Auckland · 6 tables ranked · Updated June 2026

Auckland closes earlier than a city of its size should, and the late map is short but real. Once the harbour-front dining rooms take their last orders around ten, the after-hours business moves to a handful of central-city rooms and the Cantonese strip on Dominion Road. Al Brown's deli runs to one in the morning, a pizza counter on O'Connell Street to four, and the Dominion Road kitchens later still. These six keep a kitchen cooking well past eleven, several into the small hours, ranked here by how late they actually serve, how good the food is and what you get for the money.

1.The White Lady

Burger caravan · Commerce Street, CBD · To 4am; 24 hours at weekends

Griddled burgers from a 1948 caravan run to 4am on Commerce Street, around the clock at weekends, from about NZ$15; walk up.

Pop Washer wheeled out the first White Lady in 1948, selling pies and coffee to Shortland Street shift workers, and the Washer family has run the caravan ever since. The BNZ tower works moved it around the corner to the Commerce and Fort Street corner in 2006, but the format has not changed: griddled burgers, toasties and thick shakes passed through a hatch, most plates around NZ$12 to NZ$18. It opens about 7pm and cooks to 4am on weeknights and right around the clock on Friday and Saturday, which makes it the city's definitive after-hours feed. For Auckland's oldest late meal, walk up.

Walk up; to 4am, 24 hours at weekends.

2.The Proper Pizza Company

Pizza · O'Connell Street, CBD · Kitchen to 4:00am

Gourmet pizza by the slice runs to 4am on O'Connell Street from about NZ$25; for a late shared feed, pile in.

The Proper Pizza Company has run its O'Connell Street counter in the CBD as one of Auckland's true after-hours kitchens, open to 4am on weeknights and later still at the weekend. The draw is gourmet pizza in very large formats, sold whole or by the slice, with a generous slice a few dollars and a full pie around NZ$25 to NZ$35. It is built for the walk home from a bar, ordered at the window and eaten on the street. For a late feed to share with a crew, pile in.

Walk in; slices to 4am, later on weekends.

3.New Flavour

Cantonese · Dominion Road, Balmoral · Kitchen to 3:00am (Fri/Sat)

Potstickers and stir-fried noodles run to 3am on Dominion Road from about NZ$20; for the latest real Chinese kitchen, drop by.

New Flavour sits on Dominion Road, the Cantonese and Sichuan strip through Balmoral that has been Auckland's Chinese dining spine for decades, and it cooks to 2am on weeknights and 3am on Friday and Saturday. The potsticker dumplings, stir-fried noodles and shredded-pancake dishes are the orders, with most plates around NZ$15 to NZ$25. It is the late kitchen the city's Chinese students and hospitality crowd rely on long after the CBD has emptied. For the latest genuine Chinese kitchen in town, drop by.

Walk in; kitchen to 3am Fri/Sat.

4.Spicy House

Sichuan · Dominion Road, Mt Eden · Kitchen to ~3am (weekends)

Numbing Sichuan plates and hotpot run to around 3am on weekends on Dominion Road from about NZ$25; walk in.

Spicy House, on the Dominion Road Sichuan strip through Mt Eden, keeps one of Auckland's latest kitchens, cooking numbing food to around 3am on weekends. The mala dry pot, cumin lamb and chilli-heavy stir-fries are the orders, with a shared meal around NZ$25 to NZ$35, and the room fills with a young crowd well after the bars close. It is heat-forward cooking rather than a refined meal, exactly what the hour calls for. For fierce Sichuan food late, walk in.

Walk in; kitchen to ~3am at weekends.

5.Ken Yakitori Bar

Japanese yakitori · Anzac Avenue, CBD · Kitchen to 1:00am

Charcoal yakitori and sake run to 1am on Anzac Avenue from about NZ$30; for a late skewer dinner, reserve a table.

Ken Yakitori Bar on Anzac Avenue grills charcoal skewers to around 1am, an izakaya-style room that keeps cooking when most of the CBD has closed its kitchen. The chicken skewers, grilled and brushed with tare, are the order alongside small Japanese plates and sake, with a dinner around NZ$30 to NZ$45. It is the more grown-up late option here, a sit-down meal rather than a window feed, and it suits a small group after a night out. For a late skewer dinner with a drink, reserve a table.

Reserve; skewers to 1am.

6.Pocha

Korean fried chicken · CBD · Late on weekends

Korean fried chicken and soju run late on weekends in the CBD from about NZ$25; for a late drinking feed, dig in.

Pocha has served Korean fried chicken and pojangmacha-style drinking food in the central city since 2005, one of the longer-running late rooms in a scene that turns over fast. The crisp double-fried chicken with soju or beer is the order, with a shared plate around NZ$25 to NZ$35, and it runs late into the weekend. It is loud, casual and built for a group settling in rather than a quiet dinner. For a late drinking feed with friends, dig in.

Walk in; fried chicken late on weekends.

Not for a late dinner

Right city, wrong hour

Cassia. Sid Sahrawat's Cassia is one of Auckland's best Indian rooms, but it is a basement fine-dining restaurant that takes its last orders well before eleven and closes on Sunday and Monday. It is a planned dinner, not a late drop-in. Book an earlier table and keep this list for afterwards.

Azabu. Azabu in Ponsonby serves excellent Nikkei food, but the kitchen winds down around 10pm and the room is built for a full sit-down dinner. It is not somewhere to wander into at one in the morning. Go early in the evening instead.

Booking a late table in Auckland

The map in Auckland is short and worth learning. For food after midnight the reliable options are the CBD around Commerce, O'Connell and Anzac streets, where the White Lady cooks to 4am and around the clock at weekends, Proper Pizza to 4am, plus the Sichuan and Cantonese strip on Dominion Road through Mt Eden and Balmoral, where Spicy House runs to around 3am at weekends and New Flavour to nearly 3am. Most of these take walk-ins late, so booking matters only at Ken and the Fed on a busy weekend.

Watch the last-order time rather than the listed closing time, since several kitchens stop well before the doors. The value runs from a few-dollar pizza slice on O'Connell Street to a NZ$45 yakitori dinner on Anzac Avenue, so pick by appetite and hour. Late public transport is thin, so plan a ride home, and note that Dominion Road sits a short taxi from the centre.
