Le Rendez-Vous — French / Malagasy, Nosy Be
Le Rendez-Vous occupies the Hell-Ville waterfront — the small harbour from which the inter-island ferries and fishing boats depart — and has been the island's gathering point for French expats, international travellers, and Malagasy professionals since the tourism era began in earnest.
The bar is Le Rendez-Vous' primary institution: Three Horses Beer (THB, Madagascar's national lager), the rum punch made with rhum de Madagascar and fresh tropical fruit, and the French wine selection that arrives monthly on the container ship from Antananarivo.
The food menu is reliably good — Nosy Be prawns grilled with garlic butter, zebu brochettes with the island's chilli sauce, and the daily fish that the morning's boats provided. Nothing is transcendent; everything is honest.
The terrace faces the harbour and captures both the working-port energy of the small ferry dock and the evening light on the channel between Nosy Be and the Malagasy mainland. It is exactly the kind of view that makes a cold beer taste better than it objectively should.
Best Occasion: Great for First Dates
Cold THB, grilled prawns, and the harbour view. The informal atmosphere creates natural comfort and the island setting provides the backdrop.
Best Occasion: Perfect for Solo Dining
The bar stool at Le Rendez-Vous, a cold THB, and the harbour community converging for the evening. Solo travel's most social Nosy Be experience.
