About Brasserie at Hotel Europe

The Brasserie occupies the principal dining room of the Hotel Europe — the Liebherr family's flagship five-star resort, dramatically set on the shore of Lough Leane four kilometres west of central Killarney. The room is large, modern and properly luxurious — pale stone floors, a double-height ceiling, a curving wall of glass onto the lake-and-mountain view, and a long terrace that doubles the dining capacity in summer.

The cooking is European brasserie at a serious level. A raw bar built around Kenmare Bay shellfish. A signature Kerry lamb three-ways — shoulder, loin and offal — with charred Tralee turnip and lamb-jus glaze. Whole grilled wild turbot from the Atlantic, finished tableside. The dessert trolley is one of the few proper survivors in the country and worth the calorie spend on its own.

The wine programme is broad, properly classical and well-priced for the level — deep French spine, a useful Italian and Spanish section, a serious Champagne list and an unusually well-considered Austrian section. The sommelier team will pair an entire dinner without leaning on the obvious.

Service is resort-hotel formal in the best sense: highly trained, multilingual, scaled for groups but never robotic. A four-course dinner with wine lands around 110 EUR per guest. The terrace, weather permitting, is the single most photographed dining setting in Kerry.
