Theva Residency is a small hill-country hotel with one of the most dramatic panoramic restaurants in Sri Lanka. The dining room runs along a glass wall facing Kandy — the lake, the Temple of the Tooth, and the mountains beyond. Sunset lands directly on the table; the lights of the town come up while you eat.

The kitchen runs a tight double menu. The European side is a short list of confident classics — a Ceylon crab bisque, slow-braised lamb shank, pan-seared duck with tamarind jus. The Sri Lankan side is a more adventurous modern rice-and-curry tasting: hoppers with seeni sambol, black pork curry, a Jaffna crab curry that the chef will adjust to your heat preference.

Service is the unshowy, hotel-trained kind. Waiters are fluent in English, practiced at discretion, and specifically good at knowing when to leave a two-top alone. Ask for a window table when you book; in peak season (December to February) the window books two weeks ahead.

Proposal belongs here because the view does the emotional work. The meal can be as long or as short as you need, the lighting is already designed for it, and the hotel staff can handle a champagne reveal without breaking stride.
