Henshin

Henshin occupies three floors at the top of The Westin Jakarta — floors sixty-five, sixty-six, sixty-seven — and between them deliver the city's most commanding dining views. The principal restaurant, on sixty-six, serves Nikkei cuisine: the Peruvian-Japanese fusion that Nobu popularised thirty years ago and that Henshin has localised carefully for a Jakarta audience. The sixty-seventh floor is a full-height glass bar that wraps the corner of the building.

The cooking centres on tiraditos, ceviche, robata grill, and a small but sharp selection of classical Japanese preparations. The miso-glazed cod is the dish most tables order; a Peruvian-style tiradito of yellowtail with yuzu and aji amarillo is the strongest starter. Sushi is available but not the main event. A tasting menu — six courses — runs IDR 1,100,000 and is easily Jakarta's best view-dining value.

For a team dinner, Henshin's semi-private section at the north end of the main floor seats up to fourteen with its own service, and the view across Jakarta's CBD is the visual anchor of the evening. Larger parties book out the bar mezzanine, which holds twenty-four with private bar service and a minimum spend that works out below many equivalent rooms in the city.

Solo diners should sit at the open counter, which faces the robata and sushi stations. Watching the chefs work through a long dinner service is the entertainment; the pacing is unhurried enough that a book works. The bar upstairs, accessible by a short internal stair, is the easiest first Jakarta drink for a visitor — and the sunsets, when the weather cooperates, photograph like nowhere else.
