About The Crown by Kirk Westaway

The Crown is the Jakarta debut of Kirk Westaway, the English chef who earned two Michelin stars at JAAN in Singapore and has built a considered career around a cuisine he calls 'modern British fine dining'. The Fairmont Jakarta location opened in 2024 with a pared-back, porcelain-rich dining room on the hotel's signature floor: cream upholstery, textured oak panelling, a pass-facing bar counter for eight.

The cooking is deliberate. Tomato tart — an heirloom composition of slow-roasted tomato varieties on a crisp sablé base — is a dish that originated at JAAN and has travelled well. The Wagyu course sources from a verified Yorkshire producer and is served over king oyster mushroom reduction. A 'Queen Elizabeth' trifle, reworked with Javanese coconut and Balinese palm sugar, closes most tasting menus.

The room is built for business. Acoustic panelling is concealed in the ceiling coves; the tables are 1.6 metres apart; the wine list runs 320 labels with an unusually strong by-the-glass program managed by a sommelier poached from the St. Regis Shanghai. Private dining rooms for ten and sixteen open off the main floor; both have dedicated service and acoustic isolation.

For closing a deal at senior level, The Crown is Jakarta's single most reliable answer. It is international enough that a London or Tokyo counterpart understands the reference immediately; it is luxurious enough to communicate the seriousness of the occasion; it is acoustically private enough for a conversation about numbers. The hotel car service, included for bookings above IDR 4m, closes the evening cleanly.
