About Restaurant Stella

Restaurant Stella is the fine-dining room at the Hotel Interlaken, one of the oldest grand hotels in town, and its presence on any serious Swiss-dining list owes almost everything to chef Beat Rufer. Rufer trained through two-starred kitchens in Zurich and Basel before returning to the Berner Oberland, and his Stella menu is a careful study in what modern Swiss cooking can be when it refuses the stube cliché.

The room itself is handsome in the old Swiss register — parquet floors, heavy drapes, a window line looking south onto the Jungfrau — but the plates are where the Stella shows its hand. Lake Thun char with brown butter and caviar. Dry-aged Simmental fillet with chanterelles and pine-smoked bone sauce. A signature ravioli of local goat's cheese with sauce of aged Gruyère. Desserts lean woody and floral.

The wine list is deep and Swiss-first: verticals of Rouvinez Tradition, Chappaz, Raoul Cruchon, and a serious run of Burgundy. Sommelier pairings are precise and small.

Dinner is an event, priced accordingly: the eight-course menu with pairings lands at 380 CHF. Value, by Swiss fine-dining standards, is genuinely fair.

Why It's Perfect for Impress Clients

Stella is the Interlaken room you book when the dinner itself needs to be the point. The hotel setting is serious enough that nobody questions the taste, the kitchen is the best in the Berner Oberland outside of Gstaad, and the pacing — just over three hours — respects a next-morning flight. For a client evening, there is nothing else in town on the same line.
