About Benacus
Benacus sits on Unterseen's Stadthausplatz, just across the river from the main Interlaken drag — close enough to walk, far enough to feel like a local choice rather than a tourist one. The room is light, contemporary, and properly designed; the terrace, in summer, looks over one of the prettiest squares in the Berner Oberland.
The kitchen works a modern-European bistro line with Swiss discipline. Beef tartare cut by hand and seasoned to order. Tagliata of Simmental with rosemary fries. Ravioli of Alpine ricotta and spinach. A plaice fillet with brown butter, capers and lemon. The execution is a notch above the pricing — clean, confident, consistent — and the kitchen turns tables efficiently enough that a working dinner lands on time.
Wine is the quiet surprise: a 300-label list heavy on Valais whites, Burgundy and a serious Tuscan bench, priced with unusual Swiss restraint. Corkage is offered on very rare older bottles from a regular guest's cellar.
Service is quick, fluent, and treats a two-person working lunch the same way as a six-person dinner. Dinner for two with a bottle lands at 180–240 CHF.
Why It's Perfect for Close a Deal
Benacus is the close-the-deal room in Interlaken. The tables are well spaced, the wine list is deep enough to reward a long evening, and the food is serious without being theatrical — which is exactly the right temperature for a conversation that actually has business to do. Most cross-border deals signed in the Berner Oberland have, at some stage, passed through this room.
