Ramshorn Inn & Suites — American / Montana, Big Sky
The Ramshorn Inn has been on the Gallatin Canyon highway since 1946 — predating the Big Sky ski resort by a quarter century, serving the Montana that existed before the luxury development arrived. The roadhouse character has been maintained through the resort's transformation of the surrounding landscape.
The Montana comfort food menu reflects the highway-stop tradition: the huckleberry-glazed pork chop, the bison meatloaf, and the Gallatin Valley vegetables in preparations that the roadhouse tradition developed for the working Montana community rather than the resort visitor.
The Gallatin River is visible from the dining room — the blue-ribbon trout stream that flows alongside the highway provides both the view and the fly-fishing culture that the Big Sky canyon is known for.
The huckleberry preparations — the wild Montana berry that appears in sauces, pies, and cocktails throughout the state — are the Ramshorn's most specifically Montana culinary contribution.
