About Altyn Asyr

Altyn Asyr is one of the best spots in the capital city for traditional Turkmen dishes. The kitchen has a comprehensive menu packed with everything from plov to fresh salads and bread. The restaurant has built its reputation as the city's reference upper-tier Turkmen-cuisine destination. A more formal alternative to the Sim-Sim mid-range format and the Joshgun cheap-eat style.

The kitchen serves the comprehensive Turkmen menu in formal multi-course presentation. The signature is the Altyn Asyr Turkmen Banquet ($45 per person, six courses). Appetisers including a Turkmen-style fresh salad with cucumber-tomato-onion-dill, a small Turkmen-bread tasting plate, a regional Turkmen cured-meat selection; a soup course of Dograma; a main course of Turkmen Plov with extra lamb and roasted garlic; a Manty dumpling course; a regional camel-meat side; a dessert of Turkmen halva and dried-fruit plate; closing Turkmen tea.

The room is built in formal Turkmen-traditional style. High ceilings with Turkmen-carpet decorative wall hangings, traditional carved-wood architectural touches, low pendant lighting, sound-dampening upholstered seating. Capacity is sixty across the main hall plus four private rooms (the largest seats twelve) used heavily for business and government entertaining.

Reservations matter for the private rooms (one to two weeks ahead) and on weekend evenings. The restaurant accepts cards and the staff speak Turkmen, Russian, and basic English; the menu is in Turkmen, Russian, and English with detailed dish descriptions.

Birthdays. The formal Turkmen-banquet structure and the multi-course menu are properly celebratory.
