About Fige
Fige is the restaurant that every Ankara local under 40 has been to on a second date, an anniversary, or a marriage proposal. It occupies a converted villa in the Yıldızevler district of Çankaya, with dark red-washed walls, two rooms of antique furniture and objets, a vintage piano that is played live during dinner service, and. Most importantly. A flowering garden terrace that faces the Atakule tower. The combination is the closest thing Ankara has to a Paris bistro interior.
The kitchen is run by Emine Beder, a longtime Fige cook who took over as head chef in 2019. The menu is a hybrid. Turkish mezes and grill classics on one side, a short French-international list on the other. The signature dishes are the lamb shank with Anatolian spices, the handmade mantı with yogurt and sumac, and. For the non-Turkish palate. A properly executed duck confit. Desserts include a supremely rich chocolate fondant and a sütlaç (Turkish rice pudding) that arrives caramelised to order.
The wine list is concise. Roughly 80 labels, mostly Turkish. But well-chosen, with the sommelier happy to walk a first-time diner through a Turkish wine tasting flight. Service is warm and unhurried, in keeping with the room's atmosphere. Live piano is nightly from 8pm. The garden is open May through October; the interior rooms are the preferred space November through April.
À la carte runs ₺1,800 to 2,800 per person. The restaurant does not operate a tasting menu. Service is included; staff will remember regulars on return visits.
Why It's Perfect for First Date
Fige is the Ankara first-date restaurant because it solves the problem all first dates face: the room matters. The vintage piano, the candlelight, the red walls, the garden. None of it is accidental. The food is reliably good without being the focus, which is exactly right for a conversation-first dinner. For a proposal, the garden terrace at sunset with the Atakule lit behind is the photo everyone has seen on Ankara's wedding-photography feeds.
