A great beach club has to do two jobs at once: hold a setting most restaurants would kill for, and still cook properly while the daybeds fill and the volume climbs. The fifty rooms below clear both bars, from a 1955 Pampelonne lunch institution to a Mykonos cove with a sunset ceremony. Each is ranked on setting, kitchen and the occasion it suits, with the booking lead time you will actually need.
The fifty best beach clubs in the world are led by Scorpios Mykonos, Club 55 Saint-Tropez (since 1955), La Fontelina Capri, Nammos Dubai and Blue Marlin Ibiza. The list runs from the Mediterranean and the Caribbean to Bali, Los Cabos and the South Pacific.
A beach club has to do two jobs at once, and most can only manage one. The setting is the easy part: a cove, a cliff, a white-sand bay, a sound system and a rosé list. The hard part is a kitchen that can still cook properly while the daybeds fill and the volume climbs toward evening. The fifty rooms below were ranked on both.
The list spans the genre rather than chasing Michelin stars. Club 55 has run Pampelonne since 1955 and holds no star, yet it defined the beach lunch. La Fontelina cooks fish landed that morning under the Faraglioni of Capri. Il Riccio, also on Capri, holds one Michelin star. Scorpios sells a sunset ceremony to a crowd that books months ahead. Each clears the test on a different variable: scene, kitchen or heritage.
Each entry links to the venue's full directory page on Restaurants for Kings, with the setting, the best seat, the season and a real price before wine. Use the contents list above to jump by region, from the Mediterranean institutions to the Bali cliff gardens and the South Pacific lagoons.

The ranking is editorial, not algorithmic. We weighted five variables specific to the beach club: the setting (cove, cliff, lagoon or white-sand bay), the kitchen (whether it can actually cook at volume, not just plate a rosé), the service register (barefoot lunch, daybed scene or dance-floor club), water access, and booking reality. Michelin status counts where it exists, but most of this list earns its place on setting and a kitchen that holds standards in the heat. Il Riccio on Capri carries a star; Club 55 carries none and still defined the genre.
The map spans the genre. The Mediterranean supplies the institutions: Saint-Tropez, Capri, Positano, the Antibes cap, Cannes, Mykonos and Ibiza. The Caribbean adds St Barths, Mustique and Anguilla. Bali and Uluwatu bring the cliff-garden rooms; Los Cabos the surf-and-rock kitchens; Bora Bora the overwater lagoons; the Algarve, Sardinia, the Amalfi Coast and Hvar fill out the quieter European coast. Fifty rooms, one brief: eat well with your feet near the sand.
How to Book a Beach Club Table
Book the lounger and the table together. At Mediterranean clubs the sunbed and the meal are separate charges, and the best beds sell out before the tables. Reserve both in one request, and ask for sea-level rather than the second row.
Target the slot the club is famous for. Lunch is the event at Club 55, La Fontelina and Da Adolfo; sunset is the event at Scorpios and the Bali cliff clubs. Book the moment the room is built around, not just any open time.
Go midweek if you can. Saturday is the hardest table and the highest minimum spend. A Tuesday or Wednesday at the same club is calmer, cheaper, and far easier to book at short notice.
Book direct, the day reservations open. La Fontelina takes bookings only through its website from 1 April and never by phone. Club 55 books by phone or club55.fr up to two months out. Scorpios releases peak summer slots months ahead. Get on the list early.
Budget for the extras. Sunbeds, umbrellas, towels and minimum spends sit on top of the food. La Fontelina runs a 200 euro per-person minimum. Work out the full number before you arrive, not at the till.
Mind the season. Most Mediterranean clubs run May to October only. Confirm the opening dates before booking flights; a club that looks open online may not start service until late spring.
Use the hotel for the island clubs. In St Barths, Mustique, Bali and Bora Bora, the resort concierge often holds priority access to the best beach rooms. Build that relationship before you travel.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best beach club restaurant in the world?
Scorpios Mykonos tops most lists for setting and scene, but the best beach club for a serious meal is arguably La Fontelina on Capri, where the kitchen cooks fish landed that morning at the foot of the Faraglioni. Club 55 in Saint-Tropez, running since 1955, is the institution that defined the genre. Each wins on a different variable: scene, kitchen or heritage.
How far ahead do I need to book a beach club?
For the marquee Mediterranean clubs, plan 8 to 16 weeks ahead for a peak Saturday. Club 55 and Scorpios fill their best lunch and sunset slots two to four months out, and the Cannes Film Festival fills the Riviera clubs six months ahead. La Fontelina takes reservations only through its website from 1 April, with no phone bookings. Off-peak weekdays are far easier.
Which beach club has the best food?
La Fontelina and Il Riccio on Capri and Da Adolfo in Positano take the cooking as seriously as the setting, built on fish caught that day and simple Italian technique; Il Riccio holds one Michelin star. For chef-driven beach rooms, Cuca in Uluwatu and Koral in Bali bring fine-dining method to the sand. Most beach clubs sell the scene first. These sell the plate.
What should I budget for a beach club lunch?
Expect 180 to 320 euros per person before wine at the top Mediterranean clubs, plus a separate charge for sunbeds and umbrellas. La Fontelina runs a 200 euro minimum spend per person; Club 55 charges for loungers and huts on top of the meal. Caribbean and Bali clubs run lower, roughly 80 to 200 euros per person. Wine and rose can double the bill.
Are beach clubs open in winter?
Most Mediterranean beach clubs are strictly seasonal. Scorpios runs May to October, La Fontelina mid-April to mid-October, and Club 55 May to September at full tilt. The Caribbean, Bali, Los Cabos and the South Pacific run year-round, with high season in their dry months. Always confirm the dates before you fly; a closed club in May is a common mistake.
