The Room
Jamie Leeds opened Hank's Oyster Bar in Dupont Circle in 2005 — a serious neighbourhood oyster-bar dedicated to the proposition that DC needed a working oyster-bar destination at full restaurant scale. Twenty years later the room is one of DC's most-enduring oyster-bar institutions.
The Washington Post has held Hank's on its top-oyster-bar rankings every year of operation. The format reads as the working-DC neighbourhood-oyster-bar at full kitchen scale.
The Food
The oyster programme runs the daily Mid-Atlantic and East-Coast varieties. The lobster roll, the seafood tower, the seasonal-rotating Mid-Atlantic seafood plates handle the menu's wider draws.
Wine programme tilts toward Champagne and Sancerre. Cocktails are classic-American. Service is informed and warm.
