The Room
Cathal Armstrong opened Black Salt in Palisades in 2005 — Armstrong (also of Restaurant Eve in Alexandria) running a serious neighbourhood seafood-fine-dining destination with an in-house fish-market alongside the dining room.
The James Beard Foundation has shortlisted Armstrong for Best Chef Mid-Atlantic. The format reads as the working-Palisades neighbourhood-seafood-fine-dining at full kitchen scale.
The Food
The daily fish programme runs Mid-Atlantic and Pacific seafood — the seasonal-rotating preparations, the wood-grilled whole-fish, the chowder-and-soup programme handle the menu's spine.
Wine programme tilts toward Champagne and white wines that pair the seafood. Cocktails are classic-American. Service is informed and warm.
