The Room
Maenam opened in 2009 on West 4th Avenue in Kitsilano. Angus An — Bangkok-trained, classically French — runs the kitchen as a modern Thai project that takes the country's regional traditions seriously. The dining room seats 70; the booking window is two to three weeks.
Service is warm-and-fluent. The chef's tasting at $95 is the way in for first-time diners.
The Food
The kitchen runs a serious sourcing programme that combines BC ingredients (spot prawns, Salt Spring lamb) with imported Thai produce. Signature dishes include the green curry, the crispy pork belly, and the seasonal Northern Thai salads.
Best Occasion Fit
First Date: Maenam's small Kitsilano room is the first-date for the diner who wants the night to register as flavour-forward. The chef's tasting is shareable; the Thai cocktails are the conversation.
Team Dinner: The private dining room seats 18 and runs a set Thai menu.
