About La Nonna

La Nonna sits at 100 East Meadow Drive in Vail Village, a short walk from the slopes. It anchors part of our Vail coverage and our Italian guide as the village's homage to the cooking of the Dolomites.

Founder and executive chef Simone Reatti grew up in Cortina d'Ampezzo, learning to cook beside his own grandmother — his nonna. The menu draws on more than twenty years in the kitchen and the rustic mountain food of his native village.

The Kitchen

The cooking is northern Italian and built on fresh pasta, made daily from Pivetti flour milled in Ferrara. Brasato Piedmontese — short rib braised for fourteen hours — is a signature, alongside braciola di maiale, a grilled Duroc tomahawk pork chop, and pollo ripieno stuffed with prosciutto and cheese.

Game appears in season, with venison chops and bison tenderloin, and the kitchen keeps an Alpine wine list to match. Most mains land in the upper-mid range, and the room serves dinner only.

The Room

The dining room is warm and low-lit, finished to feel like a mountain home rather than a resort dining room. Service is unhurried and family-minded, in keeping with the nonna theme.

It seats a quiet table for two as easily as a small celebration. Book ahead in ski season; the room is open Monday to Saturday evenings and closed Sundays.

Best for an anniversary or a mountain-town date

La Nonna suits a candlelit anniversary, a first date or a birthday dinner. For other Vail Italian tables, compare Campo de Fiori, Sweet Basil and Pepi’s.

Not for

Not for diners after a quick casual bite, a big rowdy group or a budget meal — it is an intimate, dinner-only Italian room built for slow, special-occasion evenings.
