About Kabojung (Gabojeong) Galbi

Kabojung Galbi (가보정갈비, sometimes Romanised Gabojeong) is the largest of Suwon's three iconic galbi institutions — operating from this Mansuk-ro address since 1976, the kitchen has built its half-century reputation among local Suwon food press as the bearer of the city's older galbi tradition. The room seats four hundred across three floors and hosts a heavy share of Suwon-resident family gatherings, business dinners, and Korean-tourist groups. The brand has expanded to two Suwon locations plus several Seoul-area branches.

The signature is the Kabojung Galbi Set at ₩42,000 per person — 250g of marinated beef short ribs grilled tableside, served with rice, doenjang-jjigae, eighteen banchan small dishes, and lettuce wraps. The kitchen's distinctive marinade — slightly more soy-driven and less sweet than Bonsuwon's, with a more pronounced garlic-and-ginger component — is what local food critics tend to call the most-historic Suwon flavour. The premium Special-Set with 300g of premium-cut beef is ₩58,000.

The room is genuinely large and the format is more banquet-style than the smaller Yeonpo. The third floor seats two hundred at large round tables with central grilling stations; the second floor has thirty private rooms for groups of four to twelve; the ground floor has the smaller intimate tables and a small bar area for individual diners. Reservations matter for the private rooms (one week ahead) and on Friday-Saturday evenings.

What makes Kabojung the right choice for visitors who want the older Suwon BBQ atmosphere rather than the cleaner Bonsuwon experience is the scale and the historical-tradition narrative. The marinade is the most-debated single recipe in Suwon-galbi food writing; the rooms are heavily-decorated with framed photographs documenting fifty years of operation; the dinner-show theatre of two hundred grills running simultaneously in a single hall is a distinctive Suwon experience.

Best Occasion Fit

Birthdays for groups of four to twelve — the second-floor private rooms scale well to family or business celebrations and the staff will arrange a small song. For impressing visiting clients, the historic-tradition narrative and the half-century continuous operation flatter a guest in the right way. Team dinners absorb easily — the third-floor banquet hall is purpose-built for groups of ten or twenty.
