Mauro Colagreco's Mirazur, on the Côte d'Azur, has held three Michelin stars since 2019 and was named the World's Best Restaurant. His Kulm Country Club at the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz is something very different — and deliberately so. The concept, which Colagreco curates with the Kulm Hotel team, is built around a single philosophically coherent idea: Mountain Terroir. The Engadin's produce, traditions, and altitude become the lens through which the menu is designed. The execution is relaxed, confident, and playful in a way that three-star kitchens rarely allow themselves to be.
The centrepiece of the kitchen is fire. Much of the menu is flame-grilled or roasted over embers — a choice that reflects both Alpine cooking tradition and a commitment to a register of flavour that is direct rather than mediated. The menu encompasses a selection of starters, pasta dishes, and sharing cuts for the table: beef cutlets for two, lamb shoulder roasted long and slow over the grill. Local producers are named on the menu with the care of a kitchen that considers provenance a fundamental value rather than a marketing decision. The wine list runs through the mountain appellations of Switzerland, Austria, and northern Italy with particular depth, alongside expected French and international sections.
The room is positioned right beside the Kulm Hotel's famous ice rink — the oldest natural ice rink in the world, where curling and skating have been practised since 1880. Vintage sledges adorn the ceiling. The acoustic backdrop is provided by vinyl sessions and live music that set a tone: sharpened, certainly, but genuinely warm. Guests dress well here without thinking about it. The L-shaped building has a terrace for summer use that turns the garden-adjacent position into an advantage. Closed Monday and Tuesday; open Wednesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner.
For a team dinner that needs to bond people rather than impress them into submission, Kulm Country Club is the answer St. Moritz most often lacks. Sharing menus, a room with energy, and the Colagreco credential give the evening both substance and ease. For a birthday celebration that wants food, fun, and the Kulm Hotel address without the formality of a tasting menu, this is the room.
