Tancredi

Tancredi is the Cucchi-family-run lake-front dining room on Via XXV Aprile — the lake-front road running south from the medieval centre toward the historic spa hotels — and is the village's most reliable mid-tier dining institution. The restaurant has run on the same lake-front location for over forty years and is the canonical Sirmione lake-front lunch experience.

The cuisine is recognisably Lake Garda Italian. The signatures are the harbour-fresh primi: spaghetti alle vongole with Lake Garda freshwater clams; a hand-rolled tagliatelle with Lake Garda lavarello and Bardolino-wine-poached pumpkin; a wood-fired Lake Garda pike with rosemary and Garda-lemon confit; a slow-cooked Lake Garda perch with butter and sage; a Lake Garda 'pesce in carpione' — the regional vinegar-cured-fish preparation. The tortelli di zucca alla mantovana — Mantua-style pumpkin tortelli with brown butter and amaretto — is the canonical Lombardian dessert-pasta.

The wine list runs to 350 references with a Veronese-Lombardian core — Bardolino, Lugana, Soave, Franciacorta sparkling — and a tightly chosen Tuscan section. Glass pours start at €7 and the by-the-glass programme is one of the most generous in the village.

The terrace is the experience — twenty tables along the lake-front, a 270-degree view of the southern Lake Garda waters and (on a clear day) Monte Baldo on the far shore, and a south-facing afternoon-sun aspect that is the canonical Sirmione lunch setting. The kitchen runs continuously through the afternoon. Service is family-run and Lombardian-warm; the captains have worked the room for years.

Tancredi is the birthday-night room in Sirmione when the dinner needs to feel like an event.
