The Verdict

ATLAS occupies the Grand Hall of Parkview Square — a 1990s Art Deco building that was derided at construction and is now recognised as one of Singapore's most extraordinary interior spaces. The soaring hall, with its gold leaf accents, Lalique glass panels, marble columns, and the three-story gin tower that forms the room's centrepiece, creates the kind of dining environment that purpose-built contemporary restaurants cannot achieve. Atlas is already the destination before the food or the gin is considered.

The gin programme — a tower containing more than 1,300 labels and among the three most comprehensive gin collections in the world — is the primary reason guests visit, and the bar team's knowledge matches the collection's scope. Atlas has been instrumental in establishing Singapore as one of the world's significant gin cities, and the weekly delivery schedule from producers in Scotland, England, Germany, and across the world ensures the collection remains current. The negroni programme, using the collection's range of botanically diverse gins, produces the most interesting version of the drink available in Southeast Asia.

The European kitchen operates in the Art Deco register that the room demands: dishes with classical lines, flavours that complement the gin programme's botanical complexity, and a menu that changes seasonally. The caviar service, the charcuterie programme, and the dessert selections from the patisserie team are designed to be ordered alongside cocktails rather than as the evening's primary event — which is entirely appropriate for a room where the architecture and the gin collection are the primary reasons to be present.

Why It Works for a First Date

Atlas delivers what a first date in Singapore most needs: a room so extraordinary that the conversation begins the moment the door opens, before a word has been spoken or a drink has been ordered. The gin tower is an immediate topic — 1,300 labels, three stories high. The Art Deco hall provides the aesthetic context. The bar team's knowledge makes the drink selection an education. By the time the food arrives, the evening has already established itself as memorable.
