L'Amant Secret occupies the basement of a Cheongdam townhouse you must be told to find, there is no exterior signage, only an unmarked black door reached through a hidden passage from a sister bistro. The eight-seat dining counter sits behind chef Sohn Jonghee, who narrates every course in Korean and English.
The fifteen-course tasting menu changes monthly and follows a loose narrative, chapters are projected on a back wall, each course a memory or invented vignette. The food is uncommonly precise: shaved abalone over pine-needle vinegar, dry-aged fish on a bed of fermented persimmon, an aged-beef course finished tableside over binchotan.
The room is engineered for intimacy, soft lighting, no overhead music, a single sommelier who knows when to vanish. Engagement rings are not unusual here; staff will hold one discreetly if forewarned and time the moment with chocolate course. The wine list is short but considered, with a strong by-the-glass programme.
Bookings open six weeks ahead via direct email only, the restaurant does not take Catch Table or Tabling. Two seatings per night, weekdays only. Dress is dark, business or evening. Allergies must be declared at booking; the menu is cooked once for everyone.
