About Balcony
Balcony Restaurant is the panoramic seafood terrace most Saranda locals will send a visiting friend to when the visiting friend wants the view. It sits on Rruga Skënderbeu, up the ridge above the centre of town, with a terrace that wraps the building and overlooks the full horseshoe bay — Corfu visible clearly on a clear afternoon, the promenade lights in the evening, the Ionian emptying into the Adriatic beyond.
The menu is Albanian seafood, straightforward and well-executed. Grilled octopus with wild herbs and lemon; seafood risotto with scampi, mussels and local clams; grilled whole sea bass for two; a house chicken truffle risotto that is surprisingly good; a platter of small fried sardines as an opener. Portions are Albanian-generous; a main-course dish feeds one and a half adults without difficulty.
The wine list is Italian-led, with a short Albanian bench and a sensible half-bottle section. House carafes are generous and priced fairly. Starters include a bench of traditional Albanian meze — byrek, olives, pickled peppers, feta — that the kitchen will plate family-style for a table of six without fuss.
The terrace holds about seventy covers in a tight two-row configuration; the outer row gets the full bay view. Sunset is the tight booking slot. Service is family-warm and efficient; the Prifti family has run the room for over fifteen years and most of the waitstaff are cousins. Value is strong by any Mediterranean benchmark — a full three-course dinner with wine rarely exceeds sixty euros per person.
Why It's Perfect for Birthday
Balcony Restaurant is the birthday room for a celebration that needs a view more than it needs Michelin-grade technique. The wraparound terrace photographs beautifully at sunset; the menu is shareable and the kitchen will plate anything family-style; the group bill is always fair. For a team dinner of eight to twelve on a summer evening, this is the clearest answer in Saranda.
