About Al Mina

Al Mina sits directly on the beach at Al Baleed Resort, making it the only restaurant in Salalah where you eat with the Arabian Sea washing up to the terrace edge. The name means the port in Arabic — an apt designation for a room that faces the ocean with the directness of a navigator.

The menu is explicitly Mediterranean: Italian pasta made in-house, Greek-style grilled octopus, Spanish-inflected sharing plates of jamon and manchego, whole fish dressed with olive oil and herbs and finished on the beach grill. The kitchen sources seafood from the Dhofar coast — Hammour, Red Sea fish — considerably fresher than their European equivalents.

The terrace is the point. At sunset, when the Arabian Sea turns orange, the tables at Al Mina become the most desirable real estate in Salalah. The water laps at the beachfront. The frankincense trees on the headland catch the last light. The wine list is short but well-chosen, with Italian and French options appropriate to the Mediterranean register.

The distinction between Al Mina and Sakalan is atmospheric rather than qualitative. Sakalan is the great hotel restaurant; Al Mina is the great beach restaurant. Both are among the finest in Dhofar.

Best Occasion Fit

For proposals, the beach terrace at sunset produces conditions that require minimal engineering. Reserve the beachfront corner table, arrange with the concierge for a champagne service post-main course, and let the Arabian Sea assume responsibility for the atmosphere.
