Aprazível

Aprazível is the Castilho-family-run garden restaurant on Rua Aprazível — the cobbled hilltop lane in Santa Teresa, the bohemian quarter on the granite hills above downtown Rio — and is the most photographed view-driven dining setting in the city. The restaurant occupies a 19th-century Portuguese-colonial mansion with an open-air tropical garden, original tiled floors, and ninety-six covers across the indoor dining room and the garden terrace.

The cuisine is contemporary Brazilian with deep regional sourcing across the country's biomes. Signatures include the famous 'galinha-de-cabidela' — a Northeastern-Brazilian Portuguese-style chicken in blood-and-vinegar sauce; a slow-roasted Bahian goat with cassava-and-tucupi sauce; a hand-rolled palm-heart cannelloni with Amazonian botanicals; a wood-fired Atlantic dentex with green-coconut emulsion; a cupuaçu-and-Brazilian-chocolate dessert.

The wine list runs to 350 references with deep Brazilian smallholder coverage and a tightly chosen Argentine-Chilean section. The cocktail programme is a serious Carioca caipirinha programme — twelve-plus regional cachaça bottlings.
