About Le Maharani
Le Maharani is the institutional Indian-Tamil-Réunionese fusion dining room of Saint-Denis — opened in the central capital and continuously operated as the village's most authentic Indian-island programme. The restaurant draws on the deep Tamil-Indian heritage of Réunion (about 25 per cent of the island's population is of Tamil descent) and the resulting Tamil-Creole fusion that is unique to the island.
The cuisine is contemporary Indian-Tamil-Réunionese. Signatures include a Tamil-Réunionese 'rougail saucisses'; a Tamil-style biryani with Réunionese-vanilla; a Indian-Tamil curry programme adapted to Réunionese ingredients (cari volaille, cari poulpe, cari boucané); the famous 'gâteau de patate douce' for the dessert course.
The wine list runs to 100 references with French regional and Indian Ocean coverage. The cocktail bar runs a serious Réunionese-rum programme.
The dining room holds forty-eight covers.
Why It's Perfect for Team Dinner
Le Maharani is the team-dinner room in Saint-Denis — the Indian-Tamil-Réunionese fusion menu is shared-format, the wine list is forgiving on a multi-bottle dinner for eight, and the cultural-fusion register is genuinely distinctive. Book the long table for a group of six.
