About Vila Foz

Vila Foz sits inside the hotel and spa of the same name — a restored 19th-century mansion on Avenida de Montevideu, overlooking the rocks of Praia do Homem do Leme on the Foz seafront. Chef Arnaldo Azevedo arrived in 2019 and won the restaurant its first Michelin star in 2022, cooking the Atlantic in a gilded room of mouldings and mirrors that keeps the building's period feel.

It stands among the city's leading tables. Compare the two-star The Yeatman, the one-star Pedro Lemos and the starred tasting room Euskalduna Studio, or browse the wider seafood picks.

The Kitchen

The seafood Maresia menu — the name means to catch the smell of the sea — is the route to take, a run through classical Portuguese seafood built on the day's Atlantic catch: grilled carabineiro scarlet shrimp showing off its sweetness, cockles done Bulhao Pato, plus cutlass fish, mussels, oysters and sole. A vegetarian menu, Novo Mundo, runs alongside it, and a two-seat Kitchen Seat puts a pair of diners at the stoves with the chef.

The format is course-only and upper-tier: the Maresia runs €170 a head (wine pairing €120), the vegetarian Novo Mundo €150, and the Kitchen Seat €400 a head. You are paying for a starred seafood kitchen in a landmark room.

The Room

The dining room carries the 19th century lightly — gilding, intricate mouldings and tall mirrors, with the Atlantic just beyond the windows. Service is polished and unhurried, paced to a tasting menu, and the kitchen runs Tuesday to Saturday from 7:30pm. The mood is refined and special-occasion, a destination dinner on the edge of the city rather than a casual table.

Best for a special-occasion seafood dinner in Porto

Vila Foz suits a landmark dinner — the starred kitchen and seafront mansion make it a memorable anniversary or proposal, and a confident place to host a guest in Porto. For more of the city's tables, see The Yeatman or browse the full Porto dining guide.

Not for

Not for a quick, casual or budget meal — this is a Michelin-starred, tasting-menu room in a historic mansion, best given a long evening, and closed Sunday and Monday.
