About Caballito de Mar
Caballito de Mar has held its prime position on the Paseo Sagrera, just below the cathedral and overlooking the marina, since 1948. The terrace is the most coveted in Palma at sunset — yachts gliding past on one side, the floodlit cathedral on the other, and a daily-changing list of fish on the menu.
The cooking is Mediterranean in the older, simpler style: whole fish grilled over charcoal, salt-baked dorada, plates of carabineros, oysters from the Galician shelf, and a long list of paellas and arroz dishes for two. The kitchen does not chase complexity — what arrives is simply cooked, properly seasoned, and the produce is the show.
Solo diners do well at the bar, where the regulars eat and where the waiters will steer you toward whatever fish came in best that morning. The wine list is fairly priced for a tourist-corridor address and leans into Spanish whites and rosés that pair effortlessly with seafood.
It is not the most ambitious restaurant in Palma, and it is not trying to be. What it offers — sunset, sea, properly cooked fish — is one of the unbeatable Mediterranean experiences when the kitchen and the season align.
Why It Works for Solo Dining
The bar seating and steady stream of regulars make it one of Palma's most welcoming addresses for a solo diner, and the kitchen will happily recommend a single perfect dish from the day's catch rather than pushing a full meal.
