Earl's Secret is a colonial-style eatery located in King's Cliff Hotel — a heritage boutique hotel on a hilltop overlooking central Ooty. The restaurant is a fine-dining destination offering Indian Continental and Chinese delicacies, set on top of a hill giving an amazing view of the rolling hills and lush trees. The setting is the format's primary appeal — the hotel sits at the edge of a small Nilgiri Hills slope with continuous views across the city's valley to the surrounding tea-plantation hills.
The kitchen serves multi-cuisine fine dining. The Indian Continental section features a refined version of British-Indian fusion classics (Chicken Tikka Masala, ₹650; Butter Chicken, ₹680; Lamb Korma, ₹780; Vegetable Biryani, ₹450). The Continental section includes properly-prepared Indian-fine-dining versions of Western classics (Lamb Steak with mint sauce, ₹950; Roast Chicken with tea-spice rub, ₹780; Pasta options, ₹450-650). The Chinese section runs Indian-Chinese fusion (Chicken Manchurian, ₹450; Vegetable Hakka Noodles, ₹350). A multi-course meal for two with starters, mains, sides and dessert runs ₹2,500-4,000.
The room is the architectural set-piece. The dining hall has high ceilings, wood-paneled walls, antique colonial-era chandelier lighting, decorative brass-and-copper fittings, and large bay windows facing the hilltop view across the Nilgiri Hills. Capacity is sixty across the main hall plus four window-side private booths used heavily for romantic dinners and milestone celebrations. The terrace garden seating (used in dry weather) holds another twenty seats.
Reservations matter for the window-view booths on weekend evenings; one week ahead is enough. The hotel concierge will arrange flowers, a private cake, and the post-dinner Nilgiri Hills walk transfer with one phone call. Cards are accepted; the staff speak strong English.
Best Occasion Fit
Birthdays — the colonial-architecture setting and the multi-course-meal format are properly celebratory. As a first date the hilltop view and the candlelit-window-booth setting are one of Tamil Nadu's most romantic dinner backdrops. For impressing visiting international clients, the colonial-fine-dining presentation flatters the guest in a way the more casual hill-station rooms don't.
