She said yes, and then was quiet for a long time, looking at the water. I cannot imagine a setting that would have served that moment better. The truffle pasta was also exceptional.

She had been to Nice before, so I was nervous about suggesting something she might have seen. But she had never been to Le Plongeoir. The walk from the boulevard, the moment the restaurant opens up above the water — it stops conversation immediately in the best possible way.
