About Šadrvan
Šadrvan occupies a courtyard position that provides the most direct view of the Stari Most available from any dining table in Mostar. The bridge, rising in its elegant Ottoman arc against the sky, is visible throughout the meal. The restaurant has been here long enough to have witnessed the bridge's destruction and reconstruction — a continuity that gives the place genuine weight beyond its considerable charm.
The ćevapi here are made to a recipe that the owners are understandably reluctant to discuss in detail. The minced meat mixture — beef and lamb — is seasoned and grilled in a form that achieves the crisp exterior and yielding interior that defines the dish at its best. Somun arrives from a wood-fired oven, warm and slightly blistered, exactly right. The grilled trout from the Neretva is the fish option for those who want something lighter.
The prices are absurdly low by any Western European standard. A full meal for two, including wine and dessert, costs less than a beer in London. This is not a secret — the restaurant is popular — but the quality to price ratio remains remarkable.
Why It Works for First Date
A first date with a direct bridge view, excellent ćevapi and prices that remove any financial anxiety is an uncomplicated success. The Stari Most backdrop does significant emotional work.
