About Selfie
Selfie is the restaurant behind the name — Anatoly Kazakov, the most intellectually serious chef in Moscow after the Berezutskiys, runs a kitchen that has been on the World's 50 Best 51-100 extended list since 2019. The name is ironic; the food is not. The cuisine is a rigorous investigation of what Russian ingredients can do when treated with Scandinavian discipline and Japanese restraint.
The tasting menu is the signature — 12 courses that move through the kitchen's research projects for the month. A recent menu centred on Siberian river fish cured with sea-buckthorn and served on plates pressed from Moscow-region clay. Every decision is considered. The plating is minimal without being austere.
The dining room holds 40 covers across an open space with a visible kitchen. The feel is closer to a Copenhagen or a Reykjavík room than anything else in Moscow — uncluttered, lit for the food rather than the Instagram, and staffed with a team who read the tasting menu as a thesis.
Kazakov is under-celebrated outside Russia and will probably not stay that way much longer. The chance to eat his cooking before the restaurant becomes impossible to book is a small window.
