"Monaco's most storied nightcap - a live-jazz cocktail bar inside the Hotel de Paris, going since 1928, where Sinatra kept table 34."
About Le Bar Américain
Le Bar Americain has been the meeting point of the Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo on the Place du Casino since 1928, one of the few hotel bars anywhere with live musicians every single evening. The whole world has passed through - Frank Sinatra famously held court at table 34.
Culinary direction across the Societe des Bains de Mer kitchens runs through chef Frank Cerutti, and the bar pairs that pedigree with jazz, swing and soul. It belongs in our Monte-Carlo guide and our wider French coverage as the principality's classic late table.
The Kitchen
This is a bar first, so the draw is the drinks list: signature cocktails built on fresh fruit and house-made syrups, alongside champagne and grands crus. The named house pours include the Pulcinella with fresh mandarin, the Pira Villosum with pear and cardamom, and the Nutcracker with Grey Goose by Alain Ducasse and hazelnut syrup.
The food is deliberately light - salads, fine sandwiches and charcuterie plates to accompany the music rather than a full dinner. Come for the room, the jazz and the cocktails, not a tasting menu.
The Room
The setting is wood, velvet and patinated leather armchairs under refined lighting, a glamorous and unmistakably old-world space that opens onto a terrace above the Casino square. A pianist and rotating musicians play live each night, swinging from jazz to blues, soul and vocals.
There is no booking for the bar itself, so arrive early for a good seat; it runs late, open through to the small hours.
Not for
Not for a full sit-down dinner or a budget night - the food is light bar fare, the drinks are Monaco-priced, and the dress code leans smart.
