About Papi Steak
Papi Steak sits on 1st Street in South of Fifth as part of David Grutman's Groot Hospitality group and has run near-impossible reservations since opening in 2019. The restaurant operates as a steakhouse with showmanship baked into the service format — mirrored walls, a glowing red-neon aesthetic, a dining room built for photographs.
The signature course is the 'Beef Case' — a 55oz A5 Japanese wagyu tomahawk delivered to the table inside a custom briefcase by a server who opens the case under a spotlight, accompanied by a room-wide announcement and often applause. The dish is priced around $1,000 and has become one of Miami's most photographed single plates.
Beyond the theatrics the kitchen runs a credible steakhouse — dry-aged prime beef, truffle fries, a reliable seafood tower — and the bar programme is mid-market premium spirits. The appeal is less the food than the ritual: this is a restaurant designed to be a birthday centrepiece or a deal-closing flourish rather than an everyday choice.
Best Occasion Fit
Papi Steak turns a birthday into a room-wide event. The Beef Case ritual, the mirror-heavy dining room, and the near-impossible weekend reservation combine into a show that most of the table will have seen on Instagram long before they arrive.
